SmartyPants:But the same ECOWAS could not sit down to plan to lift citizens out of poverty, ensure rigging elections don't happen again, bring inflation to single digit, stop politicians looting, corruption and human right abuse/extra-judicial killing? Sure, they will sit down to do what benefits themselves but not the masses. Until politicians do the right things in their various ECOWAS countries, coups and strife will be their lot. Just dey play. |

Dancebreaker: ECOWAS has done all of these things - the problem is always implementation. There are ECOWAS protocols and agreements on free trade and the use of a single-currency which are measures that will uplift small and medium-scale businesses, but member states will always frustrate efforts. There is an ECOWAS Community Court of Justice that handles human rights and other complaints. Do member states obey their judgments? Less than 40% of judgments are obeyed. Every election features a heavy presence of ECOWAS observers. Sir, ECOWAS has done all it can as a body, the problem is from member states, and that is exactly what we're witnessing again. You have already made legal agreements - now stand as one to execute them. That's what we need. |

nairalandkachy1: Hypocrites that have money and investments in the west yet, they are going against the interest of the west. Do they need you to invade Niger. You will all just watch helplessly and won't be able to do anything. |

Niger Coup Leaders Threaten To Kill Bazoum As ECOWAS Makes Moves On Military Intervention The military Junta in Niger has reportedly threatened to kill ousted Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum following the immediate standby force order issued by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, in an attempt to restore democracy in the West African country. It was reported that the junta revealed their dark plot to murder the ousted president to a top United States diplomat. You will recall that ECOWAS resolved to deploy troops in Niger following the refusal of the military leaders to restore democracy despite the sanctions imposed on them and their collaborators by the regional body. SmartyPants: I say see oyinbo, you say see father. Dem nor say mad man nor dey go farm na make he do useful work for farm dem they talk. African leaders sign everything signable at international level. They sign so easily because they have NO intention of implementing them. What is the use of all the protocols if the masses are suffering ever more? Now they are doing marathon meetings and stand-by forces because their looting positions are threatened. |
