Countries with stronger economies and foresight are applying to join but my beloved country didn't see any sense in the opportunity. One of the major advantage of being a BRICS member is that it offers member countries the opportunity of doing business in their local currencies instead of having to buy the dollar and keep getting shortchanged when they use the dollar for international trade. Being a BRICS member offers us an advantage of not allowing our reserves to always be at the mercy of the dollar. The BRICS members combined together now have a larger global economy than the G7 led by the US. Nigeria should be looking at being part of the multipolar movement on the global scene but as usual, we are always late to the party at every important step that needs to be taken. One of the beautiful thing about the BRICS is that member states are not allowed to use sanctions economically on a member state irrespective of political differences.

Are bric members still not trading in dollars like the rest of the world?

You think Nigeria should not consider all variables before joining any young shining thing because they promised heaven and earth that non failed to materialize after 13 years?

Nigeria should remained unaligned, we should not pitch our tent with any of the economic blocks. We should welcome investment and partnership from any part of the world, either it coming from the west or from the east. As at 2022, south Africa's global trade volume with the brics nations alone, amounted to over 21% of its total global trade and has consistently grown over time especially with India and China. The brics have their own bank which is a rival to the imf and south Africa has been able to access a significant amount of developmental funds from this bank. While they might not be as strong as the imf at the moment, with the dedollarization that is going on gradually globally, and the push for countries to belong to a multipolar world, there are huge prospects for them. For countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE to want to join, it must have something valuable in return for them.
