Of course, SW first before anything else, then SS, then the North and then back to SW. SE is not meant for any attention whatsoever. Tinubu got two Ministers right, FCT and Works. They had shown to have capacity in their jobs as Governors. Wike and Umahi were master builders as Governors and i have no doubt they will deliver in their new jobs as Ministers

While I admire Umahi’s zest to deliver, I don’t think this kind of admonition should be public. Quietly but strongly go about your business and get results.

Just imagine being paid to the tune of 495milla for this embarrassing work.

I can see a lot of folks praising the Man and his choice as Minister. Good. But this should be short lived. We must also face the reality that this is the exact reason why nothing really works, or works in the kind of sustainable manner to build what is called an institution, a culture.

It is just reprehensible that a Ministry with thousands of staff have to depend on the Minister to call to order a Contractor handling a far flung project. It shows the lack of ethics and proper corporate governance.

Something is broken in that Ministry that is much more important than the project in question and could be far reaching round other parts of the country.

I know that not only does the Ministry of Works have Supervising agents in its employment but it also engages Consultants and high cost. Enough layers of protection to ensure quality is delivered at this time of great infrastructural deficit and economic pressure.

We must insist that Works department as an institution is reformed and an end put to the laxity and wanton corruption that has bedeviled it for a generation.

That is the responsibility of the Minister and the biggest legacy he will leave. Much more important than his presence on every construction site.

That settles it. Umahi is better than that useless Fashola that the West has been glorifying.

Why would anyone do a shoddy job if not that the ones who gave him the job and took a mighty cut have assured him that he would not be penalised for not doing a great job.

A bad job tells on your professionalism years down the line.

No. the ministry can’t be a construction company, even in sane countries where things work, it’s still believed that government has no hand in private enterprise. And as such contracts like this are given to private companies and supervised by government agencies.

If you still doubt me then look at our refineries as an example of a government managed enterprise in Nigeria and use that as an example of how they will manage construction companies.

Mind you, refineries in the countries we import from are all in private hands.

All those people doing oversight and monitoring are the people enabling contractors to do shoddy jobs while the people suffer. He needed to do this so as to send signals to all contractors that a new sheriff is in town and it is better as it will ensure proper jobs by contractors henceforth.
