The country lacks the captive market to manufacture new cars competitively.

Pat Utomi who served as the MD of Volks if I'm correct in the 1980s said these companies were dying back then to leave the country.

He also said it's best Nigeria is proficient in producing a few car parts competitively and be a reckoning force in it. It could be brake pads, Rollerblade, tyres and so on. Imagine if Nigeria manufactured 10% of the brake pads used in Europe or 50% of the leather in German cars?

A frew market in cars is best. The second hand car industy is providing jobs and livelihoods for probably over a million people. Why not reduce import duty on Tokunbo cars further to boost employment and economic activity?

The real issue is Nigeria has no supply chain to support the local market.

No electricity
No good roads

therefore NO NEED
... refinery not working...high costs of fuel, high costs of disel, high loan interest rate, 800 naira to a dollar, multiple taxation can also discourage investors to come to nigeria to invest
Re: Tinubu Woos Volkswagen, Other Manufacturers Back To Nigeria by ufotunang: 4:38am On Sep 13, 2023
Just create a conducive environment for bussinesses to strive, excel and expand.. then they will be no need to beg foreign investors to come and invest into the country...the foreign investors will just rush and invest into the country when you provide a conducive environment for their bussinesses, investments to strive

Politics 101

You know a failing govt by so many propaganda they hawk despite the actual being the opposite.

Gsk, so many coys hv left, or are leaving due to poor economic situations & lack of infrastructure, YET APC/Tinubu are peddling rumuor of new companies coming.

Anyway, what's the difference between Buhari/APC & Tinubu/APC=. RENEWED!!!!

No food.
No security.

First things must be first. They seem to forget that security is very paramount. They seem to forget that without food life is hard for the citizens.

After devaluing the Naira and diminishing the purchasing power of the citizens, then refusing to pay workers a living wage, you are inviting investors to a moribund economy with dilapidated infrastructure. Do you think these people are unaware of the economic condition in this country?

Apart from the privileged few in this country, tell how many people that can afford the very expensive products of these companies that you are wooing to Nigeria.

The way I dey see this Man, he fit best Buhari and Jonathan for governance ohhh

His efforts alone since 100days shows that he has target!

In 2015 - 2017

Buhari was totally silent, while in 2011 to 2014, Jonathan and Patience were sharing our national cake money through Sure P. !!!
But in 100 days, Tinubu is showing practical approach.

BEEN A STRONG PETER OBI SUPPORTER DURING THE ELECTION BECAUSE HE DID MARKET HIS PLANS FOR THE COUNTRY CLEARLY TO US. HE WAS SO PASSIONATE TO SEE THE COUNTRY WORK AND I LOVED IT.

BAT ON THE OTHER HAND DID VERY EXTREMELY POOR.

IF PETER OBI SO MUCH LOVES THIS COUNTRY, IT IS TIME FOR HIM TO PROVE TO US NOW THAT SOMEONE IS MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, HE SHOULD ACCEPT THE HAND OF UNITY EXTENDED TO HIM. NOT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE NAME PRESIDENT BEFORE YOU ACT.

WE SAW WORK ONGOING IN THE PH REFINERY IF THAT GOES INTO OPERATION BEFORE DANGOTE BY DECEMBER WE ARE ON THE RIGHT PATH. WE ALSO SEE ONGOING AUDITING OF CBN, AND NOW BAT IS TRYING SO HARD TO BRING BACK INVESTORS. EVEN THE CURRENT CBN OGAS ARE BEEN GRILLED BEFORE ANOTHER EWEFIELE SITS ON OUR MONEY. ABOKIS DON LOST MONOPOLY OF FX, THOSE NUPENG GUYS DON DE BUY ONLY WATIN DEM FIT SELL NO MORE SELLING TO OTHER COUNTRY WHAT WE ARE SUBSIDIZING.

IT IS TIME TO MAKE NIGERIA WORK AGAIN REGARDLESS OF WHO SITS THERE.
Till they cut down cost of governance and build strong institutions, there will be no meaningful progress. It doesn't take much to reverse all these things you mentioned

Absolutely nothing. I feel u bro. No need asking them to come and invest in your country. So that you will frustrate them out with roads, light, insecurity, bad governance and policies. If you fix those things they will come and invest. That's why they are called investors they look for a good place to put in their finances.

For now you should ask yourself why the big companies left in the first place.

Truworths.
Etisalat
ExxonMobil
Tiger Brands
Brunel Services plc
Iberia Airline
InterContinental Hotel Group

These are just a few.
