This is well explanatory logic and you still don't get it.

The general language in Nigeria is English, but not general language in south west Nigeria.

English and Yoruba are official language in (Lagos state) Yoruba land.
Not by sentiment but by law passed by the state government.
Which means Yoruba is as important as English anywhere in Lagos.
Any state institution in Lagos must take Yoruba and English serious for communication.

They didn't force Yoruba on federal school which belongs to all Nigerians but state school which belongs to Lagos.

Now back to logic you failed to get, can you go to France as non french speaker and expect not to learn french in their schools?

Do you even know you have to take special English test to study in UK despite the fact that you are coming from English speaking country?
A highly brilliant feedback.

and so? If the govt want Igbo language compulsory then so be it, it’s a state school for heaven sake and Lagos is Yoruba land, and one not comfortable with the law can take the next available bus to wherever he or she came from. Abeg make Una rest with this senselessness

If it's optional or for only students in certain departments, it's still okay.

But asking ALL the students to compulsorily offer it makes no sense. The university should be treated as a citadel of knowledge and not as playground for local politics.
Thank you very much for saying the real fact.

There's nothing wrong with making Yoruba language mandatory in Lagos State.

If you don't like it, return to your state of origin and school.

Local languages must not be allowed to die in Nigeria. Every Nigerian school should embrace this.
You don't have sense

why do you wanna school in Lagos if you are not ready to learn Yoruba?

Go and school somewhere else or go to federal school in the same Lagos.

Can you go to France as an English speaker and expect them to teach you in English because you are special?
Oga they speak English in France especially in French universities. Please say what you know

Using France as an example is illogical

We are In the same country with a general language. Yoruba is not a general language

It can be offered as a course but not to be forced down on everyone.

Remember this is university
we practice a federalism and every state as that constitution right to pass it laws how they deem fit, you can’t come from wherever and tell the aborigines on how to govern there state, if you are not comfortable with it, for Chris sake we have 36 state and Fct, you are free to relocate!

Yes, it's true,Yoruba language is now compulsory at the Lagos State University and we love it ! Anyone that's not comfortable with that can seek university education elsewhere; no one is forced to come to LASU for a degree.

Anyone who thinks Yoruba people will not do, shy away from doing or sacrifice whatever we believe in to advance our progress and development for whatever sentiments must be kidding themselves ! Is this not why God has created and put us in our different individual land or region ? If you're not comfortable with the way I run my business in my own house, you are at the liberty to go back to your own house nah ! No be by force to live in my house o !

This constant noise from the Igbo in particular about how Yoruba people choose to conduct their business,in their own land, may start attracting unpleasant reactions if the Igbos don't desist from that nonsense ! It is called Lagos State University and not Abia or Ebonyi University for goodness's sake,so what is your headache if Yoruba language is made a compulsory course in the University ? Is it your University ? Mtcheww, dey play,we will soon start using Yoruba language to teach ALL SUBJECTS in all government owned primary and secondary schools in every nook and cranny of Yoruba land. It is already signed and sealed ! You may checkout "Science in Yoruba" to have an idea of where we heading.

The mumus are already crying when we have not even started ! You better start relocating to your individual villages in Alaigbo as you guys won't find coming events - government policies and laws- funny at all !

your language shouldn't die but making it GNS it's wrong. Don't forget Yorubas are also in my state and other states as well. Imagine forcing them to learn my language instead of willingly learning it. You guys are bigot.
ova no body go beat you if you implement a for your state, why are you crying over how someone else chose to run is house?

LASU is not the first to align the town and gown with the indigenous language of the host. This is even coming late but it's better late than never.

It is hypocrisy when someone claims to have spent donkey years in Yorubaland like Mr Obi but still needed to hire an interpreter like Prof Pat Utomi to help him do even as basic as greet in Yoruba. You will even hear "I schooled in Yorubaland " but ask same person to say a sentence in Yoruba, nada. Take same person to America for 2 weeks, s/he will come back speaking English through his nose.

The indigenous language everywhere in the world remains a very important tool for sociological advancement. Those who came to Yorubaland when we relaxed the emphasis on the use of Yorubaland are those who were largely behind the hate, bigotry and lies against their Yoruba host.

Other universities in the SW,especially the prestigious 1st generation universities like University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (U.I) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and top Polytechnics like Yaba Tech, Ibadan Polytechnic etc will soon follow suit. how is that an issue?

Why would anyone want to school in Yoruba state school without understanding basic Yoruba grammar when the 2 official languages of the state are Yoruba and English?
Since Yoruba is the official language is it not more sensible to begin by teaching them basic Yoruba grammar before more complex texts, the same way french is taught? Is that not far more profitable in the long run?

Time to give value to our indigenous language.

To school in England or in US, you must present an evidence that you can write and speak English flawlessly.

I am not a Yoruba, but I know some of you here would ascribe tribal sentiment to this.

Let other universities in Nigeria take a cue from this so that we can be fully integrated culturally.

Bravo LASU.

Many thanks to Peter Obi and his foolish obidients they have woken the Yorubas up to a possibility of extinction if we remain docile to their intentions of dominating the SW.

We have stopped issuing COfO to them next is to start sending them packing.

I'm still struggling to get your point.

gNs104 is meant to teach your basic Yoruba grammar and give you exam after the session. Like every other course in the university.

The difference is, instead of it being borrowed course before, now it's a core course.

Just like gns101 is meant to teach you basic English and give you test.

LASU is a state university in south west, I read Yoruba language as one of the GNS course in my state university many years ago.

My point is in order to understand GS 104 you must first understand Yoruba- unlike English, French or others, Yoruba language has always been taught in such a way that even if you spent your whole life in Lagos (even if you truly want to learn Yoruba language) if you do not already have an established Yoruba background you can never understand it, it's a subject inside a subject. If you just make the subject compulsory It's as if you are setting some students up for failure.

This is very commendable!!
But it would be best to holistically make it the language of EVERYTHING.......from nursery school, in offices, everywhere. Any day this happens, I'll convert to a Yoruba man and be free because that's what's called freedom.

One of the advantages that we'll get as a bonus is that we're going to dialectically get the illusive unity, in fact, this is the shortest road to unity in Nigeria.

Chaiiii!!! Very bad precedence about to be established, the entity called Nigeria is gradually sliding away.
