We spent money back i the days to watch Pa Ogunde plays, the likes of Jaguar - As far back as the early 80s, Nigerians would spend heavily on cinema tickets to watch Pa Ogunde. I even bought one around 1988 -1990 to watch one of his cinematic movies

People spent heavily on theatres to watch Chinese, Indian and locally made movies.

He made a mistake.Nigerians were buying but they were not as many as when Igbos joined and they became more when Hausa joined.
The first vhs videos made were made by a gospel group before Living In Bondage.
Population grew and the market grew.

Who dey watch Yoruba movies

Yoruba people your village drama is not the same as Nollywood.


Every tribes in Nigeria has it local dramas before what's now known as Nollywood.



If you ask Yorubas to mention the movies they made before living in bondage by Igbos, what you will be hearing is name that sounds like masquerade names that only few Yorubas know, and no body from other tribes in Nigeria know.

The only Nigerian movie I ever watched was the first living in bondage and one obscure nollywood movie on YouTube. The lead Igbo male xter kept me mesmerized and it also had a dwarf lady that I really liked too.

No offeinse to Nigerian movies, I can count the number of Hollywood movies on one hand that I’ve also watched. Movies don’t keep my interest. I can’t seem to get past the first five minutes of most/all movies.

The only movies that I can watch and rewatch is The Shawshank Redemption and The last of the Mohicans (It has the most beautiful soundtrack)

They were doing backyard plays until Igbos got involved and created the second biggest movie industry in the world.

People that have no business sense or how to make something out of nothing, think they can compete with Igbos.
