Here in the North and amongst muslim circles, average couples keep it simple. Husband can own a keke napep and wife can be selling masa and kunu aya, yet both can have a peaceful home, birthing as much as five children and raising same without as much as a fuss. Livelihoods are modest. No ambitions. No big dreams.

So these mass weddings actually matter to the selected couples cause it serves their interests as they do not have the resources to process the ceremony.

A man from the southeast that marries 2 is rare and he's standing against the Christian practice of 1 man 1 wife which is prevalent.

Even poor people in the North have multiple children, like monogamy is rare in the core North. You might have been to kano or kaduna and think that they're just as populated as any South East state but that's because they have a very large land, kano alone has 44 local governments. The land size of the 5 eastern states combined together are not as big as kogi state and kano is bigger than kogi abd so people are very much spread across the land.

With the coming of pvc, card readers, bvn etc it's obvious that the South has been inflating their votes pre 2015.

It's only delusion that can make a man who does family planning, give birth to 2 to 3 kids, do multiple abortions for his numerous girlfriends think that his region will have more people than a region that love and practice polygamy, a region which prefers early marriages and hate any form of family planning
