The Senate has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the ministers of Health and FCT Ali Pate and Nyesom Wike respectively over the death of Ms Greatness Olorunfemi at the Maitama General Hospital last Tuesday.

Greatness Olorunfemi was a victim of ‘one chance’ criminals. They stabbed and threw her out of the vehicle she boarded along the Maitama/Kubwa Highway.

She was immediately rushed to Maitama General Hospital by Good Samaritans but the facility did not attend to her for not providing a police report.

Disturbed by the sad development, the Senate through a motion sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, is instructing its committees on health and police to carry out a thorough investigation on Olorunfemi’s death and report back in two weeks’ time.

The senators are also insisting that Maitama General Hospital be sued for manslaughter.

Good. That Hospital is complicit for requesting police report in that kind of situation.
And they have to make convincing explanation on why a police report is important before treating someone with grievous bodily injury.

Really good to see that this is still in the news. This thing has been going on for decades, first time real noise is being made.
Noise works in the 21st Century. It really does .

All emergency victims whether gun shot or accident are supposed to be attended to instantly. Whilst treating them, the hospital can call the police and email/fax/send in a report.

Also any place that calls itself a hospital that doesn't have Oxygen, Blood bank supply, first aid, ambulance ( as in real ambulance not a vehicle with the words ambulance written on it) should not be allowed to be called a Hospital. They should be called Health Center.

As health practitioners, your primary duty is to save lives first!!!

Is it someone that was stabbed or seriously sick that will walk to the police station to get a report

Suing Maitama hospital is like suing the people for doing the right thing. Maitama hospital didn't commit any offense

It's the Nigerian government that need to change that law

In serious cases, you can treat the patient, then inform the police, simple!!!

Patients (in crime) can be receiving care and chained to the bed

Change the law and stop harassing innocent people!!!

Never heard of a government hospital asking for police report before attending to an emergency. A good number of private institutions don't do this.

So if it was a hit and run, they would have also ignored the patient until a police report was shown to them?
