Starting with the American Wall Street Journal, which quoted officials in the US Department of Defense, that the United States may deploy a second aircraft carrier, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, near Israel. Earlier this week, the US Department of Defense ordered the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier strike group to sail to the eastern Mediterranean to be ready to assist Israel. The battle group is accompanied by approximately 5,000 sailors, gunships, cruisers and destroyers. The aircraft carrier, based in Norfolk, Virginia, was already present in the Mediterranean, and last week it conducted naval exercises with Italy in the Ionian Sea. It is the newest and most advanced aircraft carrier in the United States and this is its first full deployment. For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Lloyd Austin directed several steps to strengthen the position of the Ministry of Defense in the region to enhance regional deterrence efforts.

He added: "We have taken steps to strengthen the US Air Force's F-35, F-15, F-16 and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region." He continued: "The United States government will quickly provide the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including ammunition, and the first batch of security assistance will begin moving today and will arrive in the coming days."

On the other hand, a US Defense Department official warned Lebanese Hezbollah of the consequences of making a “wrong decision” to open a second front with Israel in the midst of its response to Hamas attacks in the Gaza Strip. In a statement to journalists, the official expressed "deep concern about (the possibility) of Hezbollah making the wrong decision by choosing to open a second front in this conflict." He added that among the reasons that prompted Washington to deploy an aircraft carrier strike group in the eastern Mediterranean was to make regional organizations supported by Iran, such as Hezbollah, understand the necessity of not “questioning the American government’s commitment to supporting Israel’s defense capabilities.”

The United States announced its decision to deploy the aircraft carrier strike group, which includes several warships, on Sunday, the day after the unprecedented Hamas attacks on southern Israel from the besieged Gaza Strip, which left hundreds dead.
