Hi guys, A snapshot from a global leading business intelligence tool the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for Nigeria in the short to mid term. The following points stand out: 1. Bola Tinubu moves too fast on market reform and unleashes mass unrest. 2. Social unrest forces the government to make concessions on its reform agenda. 3. Corruption worsens under a new president. Note that this forecast was prepared in Q2, 2023 (June). Ponder on the above and see how things have played out so far. Evaluate the impact of leadership decisions on your standard of living. Nlfpmod

To show you how concerning things are, we are rapidly deteriorating on some indices. For example, at the end of 2023, the EIU predicted the naira will exchange for the USD at 780 (see underlined part of screenshot 1). We all know how much the naira exchanges for the USD today. Bear in mind earlier this year, Bola Tinubu promised the naira will exchange for 300 to the USD in the “short term”, and for 200 to the USD in the next four years. https://hallmarknews.com/president-tinubu-seeks-urgent-reform-in-monetary-policy-regime/amp/ Juxtapose this against the EIU forecast for the next five years. With the current realities on ground, it’s crystal clear the exchange rate target promised by Tinubu earlier this year is not feasible.

Forecasting is like predicting what will happen in future It's left for tinubu and his economic team to make their prediction turnout right or wrong. Tinubu and his team promise dollar will fall below #300 by 2027, let's see who will be right between the two parties. |

Paraman:I humbly disagree with the bolded part of your statement. Earlier this year, Tinubu promised naira would exchange for 300 to the USD in the “short term”, and then for 200 in the next four years. So far, Tinubu is wide off the mark. Perhaps not in touch with reality when he pledged a target for 300 naira to the USD in the “short term”. |

EIU predictions on social unrest and worsening corruption is bulls eye. |

OkCornel:Seems we might move on to the second prediction of the EIU when Tinubu addresses Nigerians on Sunday. The EIU as far back as Q2, 2023 predicted mass unrest arising from Tinubu’s unpopular reforms. Well, here we are. Expecting Tinubu to make some concessions on his unpopular policies. |
