Aliko Dangote is presently constructing the largest single train refinery in the world with a 650,00 bpd capacity.

This is no easy feat and Nigerians have been waiting forever for it to be completed. He might have bitten more than he could chew based on reports that the refinery is far from ready despite the recent commissioning. There seems to be a dearth of funds to finish the project.

With an estimated cost of $20bn or so, paying the interests alone is colossal, especially for one that may not refine a single litre of crude in the next 2 years. He would need money from somewhere to finish the project.

His profit gushing cement business which must have been the backbone of refinery is now facing price cuts in cement prices from its largest competitor in the market, Bua Cement. Bua has slashed its price per bag to 3,500 from 5,500, and is planning a further deduction to 3,000 once it expands capacity. Dangote Cement rather than engage in a price war or even reduce its prices, has preferred to gift a lorry load of cement for every 7 lorry load bought. That just won't do.

Any reduction in price will adversely affect his ability to finance the refinery. Unfortunately for him, he might eventually have no choice or lose sales. The present government is determined the price of cement comes down.

Will he sell his cement business and use the funds to complete the refinery? Will he sell more shares in the refinery to ensure its completion? Is he ready to be a minority shareholder? This is considering that he holds over 90% of the shares of his companies, even those listed on the stock market. He prefers majority ownership.

For most Nigerians, all they want is for the Dangote Refinery to start production. Unfortunately, they will have to wait long. I hope Aliko Dangote eventually gets it rolling, anyway possible.

The title should have been THE FOOLISHNESS OF THE RICHEST MAN.

My only advice is to be very very careful when you are dealing with Indians, Lebanese and Chinese.

Cheap labor at times kills and it's the shortest way to scam a rich man.

Is Mr Aliko a victim, please as Mr Devakumar Edwin. WHO WILL REMOVE THE BONE IN DANGOTE'S THROAT?.

Nope. His only mistake was, he didn't foresee his partner, Emefiele, would be removed and the money would stop flowing

Noo, although Emiefela was helping him but is not the main issue.

He was likely deceived during bidding of the contract. He should not have awarded such gigantic contract to Onshore construction company. From the location to the contractor aaaaaaarrrrh.

I pity Dangote when Indians junior staff were making mockery of him.

The man is experiencing enterprise competition for the first time and I don't think BAT supports his exploiting Nigerians. He should consider selling shares to bring his ownership in his businesses to under 60%. I believe he has also overleveraged his entire business group to fund the refinery just like Adani in India. He's lucky he's not listed in USA or UK, hedge fund short sellers would have evaporated what is left of his wealth.

It is not just about generating revenue to service his loans but the loan amount has ballooned exponentially due to currency float.

So, because I wrote this piece, I am an Igbo man?

Not everything is tribalism. I won't doubt if you believe Dangote's biggest competitor is Igbo, Bua Cement?

What if tomorrow he lists the shares of Dangote Refinery on the stock market, you will go and buy it without search because he isn't Igbo?

He sold a 20% stake in the refinery to NNPC when Emefiele was still in office. Emefiele's removal wasn't what did him in. Lack of financing did. The project is monstrous.

I always wonder why he had to go for an enormous refinery. Something half the capacity would have been done and dusted years ago.

Hausa people make mistake during the last election...

Buhari saw it coming that was why he tried his best to avert a Tinubu presidency.. but them Ganduje , Lawan etc. Went against the plan.

Tinubu is not defending the interest of the north...

He is a typical capitalist.. this is going to be about the survival of the fittest

I think its lack of resources.

It can't simply be the Indian. This same Indian has successfully ran other parts of Dangote's business subsidiaries efficiently. No be him tok say Dangote go build wetin he hand no fit carry.

Adani's survival relies on growth of India's energy & infrastructure sector which is not going to fall unless India is hit by a earthquake of Richter 10 or a giant asteroid. Adani is too diversified and serves too large sectors to collapse.

What you said exactly was said by a couple of banks and rating companies few months back about Adani. What I remember that Adani stands still tall and all those were taken over or liquidated by debt.

Hmm. Let Dangote experience same shock, let's see what would be left. In Adani's case, his fundamentals were strong, like you said but Dangote's fundamentals are currently faulty.
