This is why it is necessary to understand risk sentiment and how not to trade against it if you want to be on the right side of the market.

What you observed is a risk-off sentiment where investors have a negative view of high-yielding currencies and the economy so they sell those high-yielding currencies (AUD, NZD, CAD), Oil and stocks while they buy safe-haven currencies (USD, JPY, CHF) and Treasury bonds.

In a risk-off environment, if you are buying AUD or NZD, Oil, or stocks you are trading against general risk sentiment and will suffer losses. Your best bet to make profits in a risk-off setting is to buy Gold, USD, JPY and CHF. Euro is also gaining attention as a safe haven currency.

Xauusd moves in a trendy pattern

Your question made me test out one or two ideas I had in my mind

Since Xauusd moves in a trend mostly, finding major highs and lows for swing trading should be based on trend exhaustion.

You might have read from forex blogs or from candlestick books that Trend exhausts after 8-12 bars

Here's how to apply the information....

Range of pinbar is (high-low of bar)

Find a pinbar on Xauusd on 4H chart at a key support or resistance zone...get the range of that pinbar, multiply it by 8, 10, 12 and check market signals at such areas, you will likely find your reversal there.

Check it for yourself on any period of Xauusd 4H chart even the 2020 COVID period.

Scalpers will find success adopting such a a strategy by waiting for 5+ hrs at the key areas before pulling the trigger.

But swing traders may need to wait for longer and placing limit orders there does not mean that you will always be successful...what it does is it gives you an idea of where the market will reverse.

When you see the necessary change in structure, you can take the trade therein.

Waiting for market to break to 1935 zone

At 1935, if it shows strong signs of consolidation, and makes double bottom with higher low on 5min chart, then it should move upwards towards 1973

At 1935, if it keeps trending downwards and makes a double top with lower high on 5 min chart after failing to break key supply levels for 2-3 hrs, then it should move downwards towards the 1922-1912 zone

Price didn't get to my desired discounted zone but it did gave a valid entry at the 0.50 fib retracement, I entered but the market failed to move in time, the fear of Wednesday swap made be close at breakeven and the move finally happened overnight without me...
