They don't need to invade them through the land before dealing with them, they have good air power, good long range power etc.

I believe the plan was to broadcast it that they will be invading through land so as to get Hamas go into their hideout, then they will blow them up why there.

Normally, with such news of the invasion they will go into their hideout(underground, bunkers, etc) in number, and any strike at that location will surely have massive damages on them.

Last but not the least, the attack on that hospital generated controversies which may make them hold on with the land invasion as announced.
