President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the era of industrial actions in the nation’s academic environment has come to an end as the administration’s Students Loans Scheme begins January 2024.

He stated this on Monday while speaking at the 29th edition of the annual Nigerian Economic Summit, anchored by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), at the Transcorps Hilton, Abuja.

The president, who spoke on his administration’s plans to stabilise the economy, with the collaboration of all stakeholders, especially the private sector, stressed the need to immediately initiate a sustainable credit scheme that would aid an effective anti-corruption campaign.

“By January 2024, the new Students Loan Programme must commence. To the future of our children and students we’re saying no more strikes.

“There must be consumer credit, scheme will have to come to effect as soon as possible. I thank my team and my colleagues to build this programme, develop it now. We cannot talk about anti-corruption when you have to look for cash to buy a car, when there’s no mortgage for homeownership,” he said.

I dont know why this government think student loan is the way forward to help our educational system at this time.
You go ahead and give people loan to go to school, only for them to graduate and find themselves on the streets or back to their parents houses due to lack of jobs, with a huge debt on their shoulders.
Personally I think this loan is a trap only a fool will fall for.

Tinubu is making excuses for corruption based on needs and wants and not greed.
Can he then explain why our politicians and high ranking govt officials are more corrupt than the average man on the street?

Like why did an AGF steal over 100bn? Was it to purchase a house and car
Were Ibori, Alams, his humble self et al in need of cars and a roof over their heads when they pilfered from the public purse?
This is even worse than Jonathan's goat and yam theory

Did they tell you that abroad where they copied the convept from it is after resumption the govt will start releasing how to access loans.

Schools are resuming already this month and next month. If they don't pay they won't be allowed facilities like hostel. There will always be a deadline for tuition payment. Is the loan not supposed to have been sorted out before resumption?

You'll just be supporting nonsense because you've been paid.

Average Nigerian university school fees now for first year students is over 200k with no accommodation. And then again what is 500k students loan in this hardship
