Former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, received a hero's welcome in his hometown of Jega, Kebbi State, which has elicited mixed reactions. Bawa had been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June, following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu. His suspension came about due to serious allegations of abuse of office. Former Zamfara State governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, had accused Bawa of soliciting a $2 million bribe, an allegation he denied. The suspension was intended to facilitate a proper investigation into his conduct while in office.

Online videos depict Bawa's convoy during the visit and the warm reception he received. This situation has sparked diverse opinions among Nigerians.
