Gilgil:the phrase "top dollar" doest connote dollar being the currency to be paid. It translates roughly to "higher/highest bidder". If he insists on dollar, then that means he must put his products up for sale on Intl market. I wonder why he didn't do that when he needed dollar to build his refinery. He should have taken his cement, spaghetti, sugar, flour, trucks, and noodles to Intl market to sell and earn dollar instead of running to the govt. 1 Like |

Nice2023: Hoarders or maybe spectators maybe disturbed. But you see traders!?! Them be long term horders. Even if dollar reach 1 naira Dem no go sweat... Besides Nigeria is at risk cos traders are buying up the cheap dollar 💰 This is just temporary.. imagine dollar in next 3 years. That's how marketers do think 1 Like 1 Share |

Damage control has never solved any problem completely. I just hope there are other things that this government is doing covertly to return Nigeria to the place it was before APC happened to it. I'm no fan of Tinubu but i must confess that I see his desire to make the country move. Some of his recent decisions are very questionable but understandable. I mean the borrowing of trillions to spend on luxuries and Even on unconstitutional institutions like car for the office of the first lady. The understandable part is that those cars and yatch are bribes to quiten the angry persons because of the stolen mandate |

Nice2023:inasmuch as using dollars from only God knows where to prop up the naira its temporary measure..unless we become a net exporter or Nigerians become patriotic overnight to patronise made in nigeria goods..the later being highly unlikely cos when salu bata..okin biscuit...Tower pots and other made in nigeria goods were being the main stay the Internet wasn't ther now instagram..tictok...Facebook and other social media platform has filled the average nigerian mind with the illusion that only foreign made good is the best. |

sotall: I feel like giving you a dirty slap. Economic saboteurs contributed majorly to the declining value of naira. Yes, the measures of government will work for several reasons. I know many of you Igbos hate the success of this government and Nigeria. But you shall be put to shame and disgrace. 2 Likes |

Eniitankorede: Go and hit your dumb head against the wall. If only you know the number of Nigerians that have died as a result of the economic policies of this government, you wont come out and be disgracing your generation. Same government that is buying brand new SUVs for senators with scarce dollars. Same government that is budgeting billions for renovation of presidential lodges while millions of Nigerian citizens go to bed hungry. Same government that spent over 400 million dollars in a 5 star hotel for an unproductive trip abroad while the citizens are languishing in poverty. May the pains of Nigerians who have been made financially incapacitated by this government be tripled and be upon you. 1 Like 1 Share |

sotall:Money is being pumped to save dollars, yet dollar is at 970 as if today, I just sold one. As against 500 it was abi 700. They are pumping money, but not making money actually, so what happens when the pumped money finishes? Since we don't earn it? Dollar will then skyrocket. APC is just a failure simple. 2 Likes 1 Share |

We have been through this journey multiple times starting from when $1 exchanged for 70 kobo. The multi-decade collapse in the naira's value does not happen in a straight line. You have appreciation in naira which is hailed by the government and their supporters but these naira appreciations turn out to be brief as the long-term trend continues. Here are examples of articles written regarding naira appreciation in the last few years alone: https://www.nairaland.com/7730375/naira-appreciate-settle-n600-1 https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/naira-appreciates-over-dollar-by-n1-at-parallel-market/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/naira-appreciates-n368-parallel-market/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/12/naira-appreciated-30-3-dollar-10-months/amp/ https://www.legit.ng/business-economy/money/1512144-naira-ends-2022-a-positive-days-straight-losses-dollar/ Nigeria/Nigerians have a well-embedded expectation that inflation will continue to run high and a general distrust of the economy/political leaders/institutions. As long as this remains the case (I expect it will), then the naira will continue falling. The fact that people are now celebrating naira exchanging for circa N900 to the $1 when it was exchanging for tells you a lot about how easily it is to sell hope to many, especially if the politician they're supporting is from their tribe. Nigerians love to clutch on to hope, that's why religion thrives in Nigeria. Particularly for the "Ronu" supporters confronted with myriad examples of living conditions getting worse under their tribesman, a little bit of something to hold on to and lavish praise on their "son" gets them giddy until reality sets in and they move on to the next source of hope. 2 Likes |
