Tinubu and his boys granted full financial autonomy. Yet cursed children who ran away from their cursed region to come and sell Gala and La Casera inside Lagos hold-ups did not hold their cursed governors to grant it

That was how they killed the local governments in their states and started appointing chairmen who were mere errand boys of the governors. They want to do the same to state assemblies so they can have total control of their states without checks and balances. Awon ole.

The state governors are THE problem. This issue of fiscal federalism is one of the very few areas where Muhammadu Buhari actually tried to do something useful. But in true Buhari fashion, he still failed to cross the finish line and the problem (as usual) is the governors!

Because of state governors, we do not have local government autonomy.

Because of state governors, we also do not have state lawmaker autonomy.

We cannot make any meaningful progress until these issues (among others) are resolved.

This is what we mean when we talk about a lack of institutions in this country. Our institutions are dead or non-existent...and that's why we are still debating and litigating a matter that should have long been settled.

If some civil society organisations (CSOs) were to sue the governors on this matter, our pompous and error prone judges would probably strike out the suit on the grounds that the CSOs lack "locus standi" or some other Latin jargon.

No matter how long it takes, this executive lawlessness at the state level WILL be broken. It is only a matter of time. State governors have consistently argued the case (and rightly so) for state police...and yet the same bloody state governors have refused to comply with the most basic requirements for this Republic to run in the manner it was intended to. Across the length and breadth of this country, the most basic functions of government at the local government level are put on hold because some corpulent tin god in the so-called Government House in the state capital thinks he is special.

It is only a matter of time.

Truth is, government starts from the grass roots. The councillor, the local government chairman, the house of assembly members, the commissioners and governors up to the President. The governors are in most cases exonerated and blames pushed to the President.

The governors want to hold on to every kobo that enters the government coffers. Give Legislators autonomy, Mba! Give local governments autonomy, Mba! Judiciary nko? Mba! They want to control everything and everyone.

How can a state like Bayelsa that collects one of the highest federal allocation pay their workers less than the approved minimum wage? Give those legislators financial autonomy and see if governors can behave stupidly. Like Ameachi rightly said, because we don't stone them that's why they behave the way they do.

My comment may not necessarily be in connection with the post but something to reflect about.
