why arent you a plumber in Nigeria

you look down on those type of jobs in nigeria

And who told you I looked down on those type of jobs in Nigeria or don't I pay what they charge me whenever I engage their services?

I can't be a plumber alongside practicing as a Clinical child psychologist, I am not created to be jack of all trades. I have chosen where I want to achieve mastery.

Dirty jobs to you because you have been programmed to think everybody must be doing white collar jobs so you can look down on the rest like they dont matter.

The dignity of labor is well respected abroad and all animals are equal. You will see a beautiful girl will be proud to say her father is a plumber and that's her family business.
You will see a normal white babe or dude will say proudly that her family are into bakery.

And that's the business they do they use in living a quality life and sending their kids through college.

The kids even finish high school and start the family business.... they live a far better life than you..
You don't look down on labor in Western world
Don't mind the ignoramus. He thinks everywhere is like Nigeria, if I tell him the highest paying job you can get in Canada is truck driving I'm sure he won't believe it.y cousin in Canada rented his house from a truck driver and he told me he has several similar houses in Alberta. Infact, that my cousin has dusted his certificate and he's learning how to get the truck driving license from his landlord.
Everywhere is not Nigeria and you require a license to practice most of those vocations abroad.

Dirty jobs. Nigerians are aboki for abroad
Electrician is not dirty job sha. Electricians at my work place bank $150,000 per year once they get their journeyman certificate.

Ps: some move on to become directors and VPs too and would have tons of engineers and technologists reporting to them.

To buttress the OP's point :
Things are not all that rosy for Nigerians staying overseas.
You would have to work hard and smart to survive.
You must learn high-demand skills abroad if you have the intention to travel to Canada, the USA, Europe, etc.
Developed countries do not emphasize certificates like Nigeria. Your employability depends on your level of expertise.
There is nothing like I got the job because of my uncle or other types of corrupt practices.
We know family relatives who had difficulties settling abroad because of a lack of digital skills or handwork.
We know someone was able to succeed through her catering skills.
She was able to open a big restaurant because she knew how to cook delicious Nigerian meals.

The following is the list of handwork to learn before leaving Nigeria;
Tailoring
Plait Braid and Weave Hair
Makeup Artistry
Barbing
Electrician
Heavy Machine Operator
Phone & Laptop Repair
Auto Mechanic
Plumbing
Furniture Making
Carpentry
Welding
Construction
Cooking & Catering
Interior Decoration
Car Rewiring
Mow Flowers
Window Installation Service
Auto Body Painting
Truck driving should top this list.
That's the highest paying vocation if you plan to move to Canada but it requires a license.

Not much. It would just make it easier to get jobs in warehouses or factories.

You guys can never think of learning better skills?

Behaving like refuse scavengers all over the world. I'm not talking down on the skills you wrote there but considering the fact that 90% of people that considers japa are the graduates, putting up these skills is annoying.

Graduate should think above these.

I thought I'm the only one thinking of this.
I was expecting high tech skills, data analysis, programming, robotics, not some menial jobs.

The bolded is not only plumbing even massaging
Nail technician
Barbing
Electrician
Hair dressing (US you can do it at home but most people would feel you ain't good enough)
That massaging he get as e be. You need to be a qualified massage therapist else all you will be doing will be bodyrub. One could get charged for sexual assault too.

Nice one but why barbing/hair braiding is not included?
Barbing is a real side hustle, but nothing big. One would just make money off families/friends that can't barb their own hairs.

Gas station is even too much sef. when you can buy a portable one that uses battery and keep at home.

you are wrong there

in the west tradesmen are killing it

it is in nigeria that being an artisan has been completely bastardised - which is why nigerian artisans CANNOT make it abroad. and that goes for people who learn from them as well.

your average nigerian artisan has foundational competence and integrity gaps which he is able to get away with here. you cannot be doing halfassed work in obodo oyibo and client will continue to pay you.
Lawsuits nko? Most tradespeople would have a liability Insurance. To have that, the insurance company would require a Journeyman certificate. Something most new migrants would not have.

thumbs man. Here in nigeria you as man/woman driving truck go be like say you be nothing but oversea's na hot cake you be. Two of my guys in europe (italy) spend like 10m visa, flight with additional close to 7m for house and others within 1year, after getting jobs cause they both hustle the job right here in nigeria through google. Currently men this guys are ball hard now earning like 10k euros to 20k a month.
This is one thing that actually pays for new migrants that are hustlers. Aslong as they can get their trucker driver's license.

It’s in abroad people will be studying many strange courses and yet succeed. For Naija, if you don’t do law, finance, engineering and medicine, you are a loser

this is UK. Many of the plumbers in Nigeria dont have certification, have never worked with heating systems and basement piping. So them no rate us. The rather take plumbers from south africa or Eastern Europe. Any Nigerian that decides to become a plumber na full time job not side hustle. Apprenticeship takes 4 years in uk or you go to a college to learn it.

What about painting?

Of course . She knows little of what she says. Even makeup is regulated. But you can provide services to immigrants like you. Cooking and baking is nice. Especially when you cook for community parties but can’t do it for white. All other trades need some sort of 100s of hours of apprenticeship, exam and licensing to practice otherwise na jail get you

Buy which new tire, of course there is vulcanizer, your tire burst you take it to tire repair and plug it except it's totally damaged. $20 per plug Nigerian guys are doing it well in the US.

The plumbing that we do here is very substandard to start with. Many plumbers cannot appropriately size a water pump, or determine the pipe size suitable for use in waste water management

to japa to UK one needs atleast 10million naira to spend for visa flight ticket and what have you. if i can raise 10ml here in Nigeria, i dont think i would japa to UK to do brick laying, tiling or capentry, i would rather stay here and continue the thing that raised that 10ml for me.

₦10m is just $10k. You can way over that in a couple of months if you are skilled and patient. And you won't have to deal with the madness of the very volatile Nigerian government. Sometimes people migrate, not because they can't earn a decent living in Nigeria. They migrate because they want their children to have better options.

Understand though that an American dog is in a better position than a Nigerian dog. Yes they are both dogs but Bingo is never on the same level with say a Golden Retriever. A golden retriever would see a dentist when it has toothache. Bingo will be beaten silly for not cracking it's bone with it's broken tooth
