I didn't believe until I got a call last night from my friend telling me the bride's family want him, to make part payment for the dowry since Nigeria hard now. 1) Is the dowry that much 2) is the groom too poor to afford dowry (which shouldn't be much) then how will he take care of his wife and kids 3) is the bride family that poor, that they need a dowry part payment for survival or whatever reason? The desperation and pressure parents are mounting on their girls child for marriage will soon lead them to early grave.. It is the right time society should start normalizing women marrying in their thirties ,, a lot of men in their 30s cant even feed themselves talk more of those in their twenties,, Men in their 40s are already married,, so who will marry all this girls littered around? is it unemployed youths earning below 50k? Making down/partial payments for goods can be as a result of either scarcity of the said commodity or a kinda commitment to inform the seller that u're honestly and seriously coming back to purchase the said goods... Secondly Making Down/Partial Payments can also be instigated by the seller especially this economically trying times to make sure u (the buyer) don't change ur mind later or accidentally getting hit by a moving truck and spend the little u've saved for the commodity on medical bills and unfortunate circumstances.... 🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶 6 Likes 1 Share |

Your friend's Bride family are doing The right thing as good family that know the current situation of the country. If your friend don't like the idea let him do everything as he was planned, you are not in his pocket. If he likes or not he is no longer a kid, he must make his decision.
