Beware of Counterfeit Naira Banknotes in Circulation

The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to the circulation of counterfeit banknotes, especially higher denominations, by some individuals for transactions in food markets and other commercial centres across major cities in the country.

For the avoidance of doubt, Section 20(4) of the CBN Act (2007) as amended, states that:
It shall be an offence punishable by a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years for any, person to falsify, make or counterfeit any bank note or coin issued by the Bank which is legal tender in Nigeria."

The CBN is in constant collaboration with relevant security and financial agencies to confiscate fake Naira banknotes, arrest and prosecute counterfeiters. Members of the public are also encouraged to report anyone suspected of having counterfeit naira notes to the nearest police station, branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria or via contactcbn@cbn.gov.ng.

Meanwhile, all Deposit Money Banks, Financial Houses and Bureau de Change and the general public are enjoined to be more vigilant and take all necessary precautionary measures to curtail the acceptance and distribution of counterfeit notes.

Furthermore, the general public is encouraged to embrace alternative modes of payment, echannels, for day-to-day transactions to mitigate the risk of spreading counterfeit banknotes. Sidi Ali, Hakama (Mrs.) Ag. Director, Corporate Communications December 08 2023.
In a country where government doesn't care about her citizens and all they are after is the wellness of themselves and their families, things like printing of fake naira notes is bound to happen.
Leadership has always been the major problem of this country. The economy is harsh, tfare is annoying, health care system is zero and our health workers are "JAPAing", security is nothing to write home about, feeding is like a death sentence etc. ....things are not easy anywhere. People will just have to find means of survival. Printing of fake notes is not proper but anything can happen in a country where citizens are being pushed to the wall.
The mata sef taya me ....
God bless Nigeria, anyways!!!!!

how about change the new naira notes to the old ones and besides these changes made to the 200 and 500 and 1000 naira notes is awkward, the 1000 naira note is worst everything na blue dye , abeg return it back to the original colors ,we are tired of mixing 200 for 500 and 500 for 200 , a different color would have been better instead of inversely changing the colors.....Rada rada emefi-OLE and buhari
