In Ogun state, Mason is 7500 and labourers 3000. for over five years now. same thing in Anambra, Imo and Enugu. anyone saying 2500 doesn't know what he is saying. I'm evolved. I have jobs simultaneously going on in many locations in western and Eastern states. A partition of foundation is now between 2k and 3k depending on the depth
I can't say about SW because I haven't done a job there but you see SE and PH, you lie. Mason 4k-5k and labour 3k. However, those who knows their onion prefer counting at 70-75 naira per block.

BluntCrazeMan:
Preamble:
During the 2023 campaign period, part of the things which Peter-Obi promised that he would do in order to increase the “productivity” of the government workers was to phase-out the “Monthly Salary” system, and introduce an “Hourly-Pay” system, where the hours of work by the workers are calculated and paid at the end of the agreed periods of payment.

He promised that there would also be flexibility of how the workers chose to be paid...
Either Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly.

He envisaged that this system would make workers to have control over their works by knowing exactly what they are supposed to do, and do it.. Then they can clock-out at the first job in order to go to the next job where their expertise are also needed and clock-in.

There won't be any fear of paying double salary to anyone who works at more than one place at a time.

Basic “Hourly Pay Rates” are calculated and paid for 8 hours per day.
They are the payments which are taxed by the Government.
(Any other extra hours above the maximum 8-hours are counted separately and paid as overtime, with some additional added percentages to it)

Then, 5 days per week. (That is, the weekdays).
Works that were done on the weekdays are the ones that were taxed by the Government.
(For someone who had worked completely for 5 days in any week, any other extra days above the maximum 5-days are counted separately and paid as overtime, with some additional percentages to it. Nevertheless, if the person didn't work completely for 5 days within the weekdays, and he hoped to cover-up the days of work within the weekend, he doesn't get an overtime on the number of weekend days of work which are below 5 days in a week,, but those works which he did on the weekends would not be taxed)

Then, for those that are paid monthly, Each month consists of 4-weeks..
Thus, actually making it 13-months in a year..
(And not the 12 months we used to know)

..
NOW, TO THE MAIN REASON FOR OPENING THIS THREAD:

The current minimum basic monthly pay in Nigeria is N30,000..
Which translates to N187.50 for each hour of work,, or N1,500 for each day at work, and N7,500 for each week.

The current minimum basic hourly pay rate in the United Kingdom (both for Government Workers and Private Workers) is £10 (ten-pounds)..
Which is about N11,000 in Nigeria - going by the CBN’s official rate for conversion..

I am not advocating for Nigerians to be paid up to N11,000 per hour of work in Nigeria.. To be frank, that amount is too high for the Nigerian economy to carey.. but at-least, something reasonable enough which our economy can actually carry at the moment.

LET US JUST SUGGEST WHAT WE THINK IS FEASIBLE AND OBTAINABLE..

What amount (in Naira) should be the “Minimum Basic Hourly Pay Rate” for the Nigerian Workers,, Both the Workers in the Government Establishments and those in Private Firms, including those who are employed by individual employers.

....
..
My own personal Opinion...
I am suggesting any amount between N1,500 and N2,000... (Per Hour Ooo.. Not Per Day)
It is still too small compared to other countries, but it is actually what the economy can actually sustain for now, and at the same time, bring out the very best outputs in the workers..

(To put it into the contest we can understand:
N1,500 per hour means:
N12,000 per day.
N60,000 per week.
And N240,000 per month..
...
.
N2,000 per hour means:
N16,000 per day.
N80,000 per week.
And N320,000 per month..)

NOW, YOU CAN SUGGEST YOURS...
you go fit pay labourers 1,500 hourly if them dey build your house? Nope.
500 per hour is fair enough in places like abuja.
That's 4k a day.
Overtime charges could differ.
I know your relistic but be more realistic.

It's the employers that it will be disastrous for...Especially Wicked employers that make pple work for over 12 hrs yet pay them flat rate of like 25k per month... E.g petrol station attendants .supermarket workers.....

There are too many small and medium business owners in Nigeria exploiting pple..yet they know how to buy 50million naira cars...yet they will owe employee 3 months salary...

Government should first enforce minimum wage across all sectors.....and give NLC more power to enforce these rules and punish any company paying below minimum wage...
You did not think from the angle that, they will not give you the basic 40 hours weekly.

Now they will be able to get you working for few hours daily, and call off days at their will when much not on ground.

The hours you looking at will never be guaranteed.

Are you for real??
Masons earn about N1,250 per hour.
Mason-Servers earn about N750 per hour.

So tell me...
Why would professionals in the design-offices earn N200??

Are there good reasons?
Or abi you're just trying to joke?
professionals do not earn minimum wage. It's school cert holders (junior staff) that earn minimum wage
Re: Suggestions: What Would Be The Minimum Hourly Pay Rate For The Nigerian Workers? by Anonimoux: 2:04pm On Dec 12, 2023
₦2,500 / Hour would be a great starting point, then some big multinational corporations can go higher depending on their profitability and Revenues eg

₦5,000 / Hour

But anyway high salaries would be meaningless if hyper-inflation is still posing as a big challenge.

One area that inflation is really biting hard is Food.

If Nigeria can solve food inflation first, it would drastically reduce Nigeria problems by at least 25%

Basic commodities and services like transportation shouldn't be too expensive.

This country can be good we just need to put good heads together and think.

This is why Peter Obi losses at the polls is still hurting me till now.

Wow..
Ogun, Delta, and Rivers??

Day-Pay of about N4,000 is so cheap though.
Not only in Ogun, Delta and Rivers state.. Even here in Lagos, Abuja, etc. It's way more cheaper in the North. I am an artisan, I work in the site from January to January.

An average mason charges 6,000 naira daily, labour 3,500 or 4,000 naira daily sir.

It doesn't matter what they give u.... If it's 5hrs per day..u get paid for for 5hrs....then u do more hours with another company...thats why pple have multiple jobs abroad....

Instead of working for 14hrs for one employer yet only get a flat fee salary that less than the hours u put in...

Multiple jobs having same attitude. Nigerian employers don't even have emotions so I can imagine how much they will capitalize on such. You talking about multiple jobs as if the jobs are even there in the first place.

Anyone who suggests anything less than N1,000 is not actually aware of how big the Nigerian Economy truly is,, and how the human resources are being seriously bastardized..

The workers are being neglected..

And that's the resultant effect of what we have now at the moment.

.
.
In Nigeria, in the informal building construction sector,, the daily pay for artisans is N10,000, while that of labourers is N6,000.

This translates to N1,250 and N750 per hour respectively -- for the artisan and the labourer.

So, why would the professionals be the ones to be paid far less than artisans and labourers??
Those guys at construction company no get retirement benefits from the company bro

A typist/clerical person with OL/NCE/OND should not earn more than mason, carpenters, welders, plumbers -all doing technically and physically demanding jobs.. It does not work like that in UK, EU, Canada, US… Construction workers are one of the most paid workers without university degree. Just like electricians and mechanics are well paid abroad.
we are talking about minimum wage. It does not mean that everyone will earn same amount. People are paid based on the profession.

I love this last line of yours..
At least,, Let Nigerians look in the direction of “hourly-pay” for once, and even consider it..

Even if they first see it from the IDEAL point of view..
No Wahalla...

And then,, much much later,, we can look at it deeply from the realistic point of view.

Employers will badly capitalize on it.
How exactly would the employers capitalize on that??

And again,, the capitalist employers would be paying like how much..??

While you reel out numbers, consider productivity too.

It's the productivity, and the labour market which determined the figures I used here..

Our Labour Unions in Nigeria are already in chains.

They have no bargaining powers any longer

A basic civil service pay of N500 per hour is reasonable and should be affordable for all states and federal government.
That translates to N4,000 per day and N80,000 per month.

Anything above that is unreasonable and will likely not be taken seriously
Nice One..

The question should be,"What should be, not would be". I can see some people are confused & didn't read your post. Using "Would" only means someone somewhere probably in the government is contemplating it but nah.

Anyway by your suggestion, government can implement it. Nigeria has money but private organizations and individual employers would definitely not want to. It will wreck some and for others, they won't want their profit net reduced. Some will prefer to accumulate wealth to themselves rather than evenly distribute it.

Now imagine paying at the rate of #1500 per hour for one month as minimum wage, #240,000 for smallest worker. I don't think Nigeria's economy can handle that for now. It's not stable enough & if it's somehow possible in my lifetime, it's probably because inflation has ravaged Nigeria's economy as much as Zimbabwe.

However, #500 to #700 is feasible for both federal & private maybe #1000, but #2000 haaaa economy no good ooo. He go hard
I love your response..

Is there a maximum wage cap
All those people earning over 500 million naira annually as basic take home pay from the government purse and we don’t get to see tangible work done
The disparity between a labourer & a house of representative is too wide
Isn’t this why people try to kill themselves to get there
For Government Paid Workers/Persons,, there are MAXIMUM WAGES Which he shouldn't earn above..

And thus,, if they begin to live some certain lifestyles while still in service,, they needed to be checked.

Tell us how big the economy is because i know it all depends on consumers purchase power, most restaurant make gain of 20k per day having like 5 workers being paid 30k monthly.. If we were to pay 1k per hour, use your imagination to figure the rest
The productivity of the restaurant determines the amount of workers..

If there are 5 busy workers,, the turnover in the restaurant will definitely get me the amounts to pay them.

Else I cut down.

The top-notch services which the workers render all counts to the productivity..

Every person works to make the best use of his/her time in order to merit their pay.
Else, a bad review will cause the person to be pruned off.
