The Presidency, on Monday, confirmed resignation of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong.

According to PUNCH report, Lalong will now proceed to the National Assembly as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial, a seat he won as affirmed by an appeal court ruling dated November 7, 2023.

“Lalong has resigned. But it was not at the FEC meeting itself. It must have been after the meeting because, if it were earlier, the President or SGF would have announced it during the meeting,” a presidential aide told PUNCH.

It was further gathered the former Plateau governor is due to be sworn in later this week by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Then again, it depends on the portfolio. Maybe greed wouldn't have allowed him resign if he was assigned to the FCT minister position, or other similar 'juicy' portfolio.

With the slow motion and lack of direction that this government is exhibiting at the moment, Simon Lalong knows that the best decision is to be a Senator rather than being part of the Executive.

Yes, he was one of the people who championed the birth of this administration but may be he is disappointed with how things are turning out presently.

Yes, self-respect and dignity are compatible with self aggrandisement. Akpaabio didn't resign as Senator to become Minister of Niger Delta just to be more relevant. It was because he is a shameless looter. Same with Dave Umawhatever who forfeited the senatorial seat to become Minister of Works. It is all about the large budget. The money. No self respect. No shame.

Someone that made the second minister list, it's was obvious BAT didn't want him in his cabinet. This man was a failure as governor of plateau state if not for the issues of PDP in the state.

He can now focus on others things without national pressure .

APC would not have won a senatorial election rerun if he had remained as a minister.

He finally saw the possibilities of being elected for more than one tenure as a senator than being reappointed as a minister and there're many more opportunities in the Senate talking about securing chairmanship of juicy committee.
