To those who are saying Nigeria is ill-capable. Let me burst your bubble. Nigeria has the largest gas reserve of gas. A 120 trillion gas cubic meter of discovered gas and a potential discovery of 600 trillion cubic meter of Gas. That's unmatched in Africa. Even Algeria, our closest rival in gas reserves don't even come close. Nigeria has the capacity to supply the West African region with Gas for industries hence she built the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) which is currently being redoubled in capacity to meet growing needs. Also we have the NLNG that is supplying Nigeria with about 45% of her gas needs. It is also worthy to note that with the completion of the Dangote Refinery, Nigeria has met 100% of gas needs because that refinery has a part of it that's designed to supply LPG to the Nigerian market and beyond.
Nigeria has unmatched reserves of gas from the Anambra basin in Anambra all the way down to the Niger-delta and the offshore region. You should be expecting to see contracts like this because The FG has declared this decade as the "Decade of Gas." This initiative has long been in the works since the administration of GEJ and successors after him. NNPC has been pioneering, supporting and making significant investment in too many gas initiatives like the OB3 pipeline, the AKK Pipeline for the northern region and the ANOH gas project being done by Shell, Seplat and NNPC in the Imo Basin.

Cost of Gas have factors taken into consideration before price is arrived at.

This is not governed by demand and supply but by cost of production….

Lemme stop there.

In a groundbreaking move, Riverside LNG, a prominent Nigerian energy company, has disclosed ongoing discussions regarding a potential agreement to supply gas to South Africa starting from the first quarter of 2024. This development marks the initiation of what could be the first-ever gas deal between Nigeria and South Africa, signaling a potential collaboration in the energy sector.

CEO David Ige, in an exclusive interview in Abuja, revealed the company’s strategic focus on expanding its reach across the continent. Earlier this year, Riverside LNG formalized a gas-export partnership with Johannes Schuetze Energy Import AG of Germany, demonstrating its commitment to international collaborations.

“We’d probably very early in the year close out another segment of the market, an off-take for South Africa,” Ige stated.

“There’s a massively evolving gas market in the region, covering southern Africa, western Africa, all to northwest Europe and to the Caribbean and South America broadly.”

While emphasizing the confidentiality of ongoing discussions, Ige refrained from providing specific details about the negotiations with South African counterparts. The company is simultaneously exploring potential opportunities in Liberia and Cameroon, further solidifying its position as a key player in the African energy landscape.

Strategic Implications for South Africa: Addressing Power Shortages and Embracing Renewables

Key Considerations:

South Africa’s persistent power shortages due to ageing and inadequately maintained power stations managed by Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.
Delays in procuring extra electricity from private providers due to grid constraints and legal disputes.
Lack of an LNG facility in South Africa; deliveries from the Riverside LNG project expected to start in 2027.
Shifting towards renewable energy sources with a goal to achieve 60 gigawatts of power from renewables by 2030.
Regional Dynamics:

Southern African Development Community endorses a $17 billion plan for natural gas infrastructure to enhance energy provisions in the region.
Investments in pipelines and terminals for both local and imported supplies.
Riverside LNG’s potential gas supply deal with South Africa aligns with the nation’s efforts to diversify its energy sources, moving away from coal dependence. With 80% of electricity production currently reliant on coal, South Africa aims to achieve a significant portion of its power from renewables by 2030.

CEO David Ige emphasized the broader opportunities for Nigeria, stating, “We see a huge opportunity for Nigeria in being a trading hub.” The evolving gas market in the region presents a strategic advantage for Nigeria to position itself as a pivotal player in the global energy trade.

The luckiest President ever is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Federal Government revenue streams is about to multiply in several folds

Upon completion of Nigeria - Morroco - Europe Gas pipeline ... Tinubu's Government would be making Billions in dollars from Gas

Upon completion of Dangote Refinery, Nigeria would be supplying Petroleum product accross Africa and earning dollars for Foreign Reserve

NNPLC Refinery would cater for domestic needs just like other modular refinery in Edo

.

South Easterners were always calling us all sort of unprintable names because FG took the crude oil from us without our place looking like Dubai.

Now that the focus will be on their gas also, I'll see what they will do.

You can be rest assured that Igbos will never tolerate what the Niger Deltans have tolerated. If the agitations for Biafra doesn't show you a glimpse of the way the Igboman sees Nigeria and her shenanigans, then my brother you be learner..
