Hi nairalanders, pls i need ur sincere advice on this. Should i build my first house in my Home Town or in the City. I have land in the both side. Which one should i start first. Pls be mature no insult

If you already have a portion of land in the village, buy land and build in the town first before urban development makes land and housing unaffordable for you in the town. Having your own house in the town will help you to sustain your job or business in the town and to raise money and build a house in your village. Even if you go bankrupt in the town, you can quickly build a small house in the village by selling or renting out your house in the town since you already have a portion of land in your village.

If you need to buy land before you can build in the village, build in the village first or at least buy a portion of land in the village first in case you go bankrupt in the town. Relocating to village is easier when you already have a village house or at least a portion of land in the village.

If u are an igbo man...pls build first in ur village.

That is very important.

I started building my house in Abuja...I had to stop and finish my house in the village.(cos anything can happen).

There is no economic thinking that can defy this advice I am giving u now...it is strictly for we igbos.

Town first... you live in the town and only visit your village!

Building in town will save you cost of rent while that in the village will give you a bragging right which is irrelevant in life.

In nairaland, if we build in town first, they say we should go and develope out home first, you build in the village first, they say you are a fool who built a house, he will visit once in a while but majority of us knows the right thing and is doing it, they can say what they want, while we do what we want

Let talk about GoodLife milestones
1. Teenage car
2. Couple wedding ring
3.Single family home ( the city you made the money from
4. Rental property
5. Vacation home ( your village house)

Base on above first build city.

Build in the place you live, first.

Am not an Igbo. And again am very much comfortable in my family house whenever i come around. I renovated it for my parent yrs back. Actually i'm not from a polygamus family. But dat place still remain family house

There are no rules guiding these things, and i hate it when a few people make rules for everyone to follow.

Your action/choice at every particular point in time should depend on your personal circumstances, and not on what other people did or are doing.

For me, i first built in my village because my father's house is already old/old-fashioned and doesn't look befitting to my current status.

Someone else with a different personal circumstances would be justified to make a different decision.

As is typical of me, i follow my own rules, not anyone else's

Build a small one in the village and build a bigger one in the city where you're based
