A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Femi Falana, has said Nigerians have the right to bear arms in self-defense.

Falana said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s stance on Nigerians bearing arms was incorrect.

Following the attack on some villages in Plateau State on Christmas Eve, Lagbaja had said Nigerians have no right to bear arms.

However, Falana said Nigerians need to obtain a licence to bear arms.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Breakfast on Wednesday, Falana said: “In the first place, it is not correct to say Nigerians have no right to bear arms. Apart from the fact that the penal code applicable in the North and the criminal code applicable in the South recognises the right to self-defence.

“In other words, if someone aims a gun at me, and I can quickly grab another gun, I have the right to shoot.

“But you are required to apply for the licence first.

“I am just talking of the right to self-defence which is also guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Right. But Nigerians are not used to self defence. It is why Boko Haram produced the Vice President, will soon produce the President, is overrunning the country in their baptismal names of 'bandits' and 'herdsmen' but NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. Instead, if you talk all the government arsenal will be deployed against you, and their e-rats would be calling you names.

Nigerians should kick out this government ASAP or...

Government won’t protect them neither will they allow the people defend themselves.
Give the people arms and watch Nigeria security forces disarm them.

Abeg o, don't encourage the acquisition of weapons o! grin

Nigerians have not developed to that level yet, or else they will turn the weapons on one another.

Civillians bearing arms is what Millitary dont want. Because they know that will balance the equation either with the millitary or bandits/terrorists. They still want the civillians to continue to die like chicken.

You can get the license from the commissioner of police. That is barrel guns. But the process is a bit cumbersome. But the license will be approved.
I will apply for it too.

You can apply for it. Lots of people living high brow areas in lagos, have guns. But it must be barrel guns. They will need to do some background checks etc, before the commissioner of police will sign it.

The license is not difficult to obtain. The only challenge is that it has to be a double barrel pump action gun.

But the fulani are using their control of the FG to disarm others while unleashing their cowardly terrorists on them. Let there be armed state and local council police, you will see the nonsense stopped. Wicked people.
