They play grassroot politics You cannot do without them in any Igbo community If you commit an offence such as stealing in your community let say chicken the umunna will openly discipline you in their next general gathering.... That alone keeps crime away from the community,,... Nobody wants to spoil his or his father's name... Wherever you reside on earth and a child in born to your family, a minimum of 1 chicken and a tuber of yam is used to announce the birth of such child in the general gathering of the ummunnas...
