Effective today, a huge change is sweeping acros canada study permts process as announced my the Immigration Minister Marc Miller.

1. Study Permits approval will be cut by 35% till 2025.

2. Before you could submit a Study Permit application, you will need an attestation letter from the province of your school in Canada.

Now the big concern is provinces are yet to work out how to administer the attestation letter process so if you have a a pending study permits application, you may be caught in the crosshair.

3. Spousal open work permits no longer available if you are not a masters or Phd student in Canada. It means your spouse will have to apply for a visitors visa.

Effective today January 22 2024

They will suffer for it. Canada makes about cad$6bn from international students in a year.

This change is not well thought out. For example, I have applicant who already have a Letter of Acceptance, now the path to obtaining a provincial attestation letter was not explained by the minister of Immigration, even the provinces do not have this process in place for students who a currently in the process.
Why not let this take effect at a later date like 6months time so all the systems are properly in place.
Totally unfair on the students who are currently in the process.

I just paid cad$16,000 for one of my applicant with the hope that her husband will join on an open work permits, Now, I have to break the bad news.

The implementation of this policy change is totally poor snd unfair to the students caught in the process.

Lol they will suffer for what. The numbers are completely unsustainable. Citizens and PRs can't even get jobs or houses to live in. I just feel for those in Nigeria. Migrating out of the country will become impossible by 2030 even with money.

He said Canadian citizens, not immigrants. Their citizens are complaining bitterly about housing and jobs, immigrants can easily adapt

On YouTube they are saying it's not even enough that the number should be reduced further. People were complaining that their kids can't even get menial jobs to do as immigrants have taken over everything.

the numbers truly are no longer sustainable. Many of the colleges are even offering mushrooms courses just to take international students money. Japa just dey hard everyday . Many international students have been unable to find jobs since they came too.

And those two mgbekes were abusing Chile in my thread. There's menial job in Chile and it will cover rent and feeding if you want it. By 2030, leaving Nigeria will be almost impossible even if you have the money.

Living in a country whilst thinking every second on how to reduce your risk of deportation or (improve your opportunity to remain in the country) must be really hard. Knowing that one policy change from the real owners of the country can truncate a decade of planning is even harder. You people are trying!

I am a Canadian citizen and never complaining about a home or job. All my friends who are Canadian Citizens from Nigeria are homeowners and landlords with steady jobs.
Wtf are you talking about.
He probably means OG citizens(born and raised in Canada). And yes they are lamenting bitterly about jobs, housing, immigrants and international students. Just go to reddit and check the askTo or Canada subreddit.

The new policy I'm confused about is if students who complete a 1 year program from a pwgp eligible college can apply for a 3 years work permit?

Canada originally belongs to the first nations natives and they are the original citizens.

The rest are either immigrants or kids and grandkids of immigrants

Don't mind him, it's evident he knows nothing, just ranting to show-off. Citizen who doesn't know what is happening in his community neither does he belong to any municipal townhall meeting. I don't have time for this liar parading as Sabinus on Nairaland

i’m also a citizen and am not disconnected from the reality. New people that came in last year have been having difficulty getting jobs. Even those of us with job just stay one place dey observe( the company I work for laid off 5k people globally in the last 6 months) .

Nope.

Your spouse can only apply to visit you on a visit visa. After you get your PR, you can sponsor her.

It is subject to review in 2025 and a Ministerial instruction at the moment.

Only student exempted are masters and Phd students.

There are policy's that will be review in 2025 ahead of 2026 joint hosting world 🌎 cup. Let's just adapt & adopt what comes from Cana for now. It's well
