Minister visits female soldier undergoing rehabilitation

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, paid a visit to female soldier Ruth Ogunleye, undergoing rehabilitation.

In a video that went viral on social media, Ruth Ogunleye claimed that she experienced stigmatization, intimidation and sexual harassment at the hands of a colonel and two other senior officers.

She leveled accusations against the colonel, asserting that he had been disrupting her life since she rejected his sexual advances.

Furthermore, she claimed that he halted her salary in February 2023.

Ohanenye revealed this on her X handle on Thursday, January 25.

She wrote: "In keeping with my earlier resolve, I was at the facility where the female Soldier, Ruth Ogunleye is undergoing rehabilitation earlier this week. Aside from the noticeable improvement from my last visit to her, she was in high spirits and we interacted cordially. I am impressed and must commend the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Taoreed Lagbaja for the top notch care and attention given to her by the Army through the deployment of their personnel to the facility. On our own part, the Ministry also deployed a desk officer to monitor her recovery in keeping with our mandate to promote the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerian Women "

This Ruth Ogunleye's case throws a wider light on what goes on in the Nigerian military.

Sexual harassment is vehemently suppressed because they are all doing it.

Ruth is lucky her situation got public attention or the army would have shown her shege.

She better not put in writing that she is now rehabilitated and sorry.

I think the minster is a lawyer and experienced. Please nothing should happen to that soldier, they should not turn this whole thing on her head.

I think it's best she makes her way outta the military because the torment and oppression in a male dominated organisation such as the army, won't end.
Perhaps, madam minister can engage her when the rehabilitation is over.
