The rate at which even the poor are being kidnapped en masse from buses plying Nigeian roads has now assumed epidemic proportions. The kidnappers are utterly ruthless and have no qualms about opening fire on fully occupied buses to kill the driver and anyone else in the line of fire, so as to bring the vehicle to a halt and thereby abduct all passengers at gunpoint.

There is a discernible pattern to the manner in which passenger buses are suddenly being targeted by kidnappers virtually all across the Nigerian federation from the desert northern reaches to the Atlantic seaboard. A highly organized, heavily armed CARTEL is now actively hunting for human beings on ALL Nigeria's highways. This state of insecurity is very similar in many regards to a state of war in the land, with no immediate prospects of any respite in the near future.
