That smart one doesn't understand what you mean by policy . He thinks because there are human rights for immigrants in the USA or Europe then the citizens must really love the migrants boating in everyday . He doesn't get that mass migration is a hot issue globally and citizens of those countries are fast losing their cool ....no one will respect those constitutional rights anymore . Sweden, German and French riots are a glimpse of what's coming over there. The xenophobic riots in the UK some few years back were also an indication that people are running out of patience with this situation and things are getting worse with more migrants coming in from 3rd world countries and the homelessness and poverty rising among the citizens. The show is about to start in a few years.... and ofcourse no government policy will prevent the outburst

His name was in rap songs, he appeared in their movies, and was a friend to the community. Then he joined politics and people like you branded him a racist. Very unfair

Okay, thank you for this report. However, saying that Xenophobia has become institutionalized in government in SA is different from saying that it is official state policy. Corruption is institutionalized in government in Nigeria, but it is not official state policy, is it? Now, does the fact that Nigeria is overwhelmingly corrupt, has a culture of corruption, and has corruption insidious in government mean that the Nigerian State should not take up a state policy against corruption?

All the more, it should, and yes even abroad too.

Xenophobia in SA is recent compared to the ANC's historical support for Palestine on the ground of Apartheid.

It is not true that they are against only illegal immigrants. That is what they will say but any serious observer knows that the immigration debate not just in the USA but also across Europe is beyond legality. It is more about policy and the desirability of having less rather than more immigrants - whether legal or not. And people like Trump in particular have been well recorded with their many racist statements against the peoples of other countries - "shithole" countries according to him. Who only bedevil them with "rapists" - in his generalization of Mexican immigrants for example.

But seriously - as I said - its not about legality - at a policy level many conservatives in Europe and North America want less immigrants, period.
