Why Open Drainages In Nigeria Roads? by Klinee(op): 2:23am On Feb 12, 2024
I do ask question about the road construction companies in Nigeria building open drainages in Nigeria city centers that is densely populated.
There is virtually no advantage in open drainages rather than being a deeth trap for residents.
What are their reasons, why do they chose to build open instead of closed one?
I need an answer to this.
The disadvantage of open drainages is unquantifiable;
it has causes accident leading to lost of many souls and people sustaining lifetime deformity.
it is a breeding zone for mosquitoes which causes malaria fever.
It creates an avenue for people to dump refuse and dirty, which defaces the ecstatic view of Nigeria cities and health implications involved.
Open drainages can clog and block easily because sand can fill in easily because of its widely opened surface area.
It enhanced the growth and germination of grasses because it's directly opened to sunlight which enable photosynthesis, also leading to total blockage of the drainage.

The reason is the population don't know any better, and/or don't care about it, and therefore there's no pressure on the govt to build the roads right, ie with covered drains and pedestrian sidewalks as is the norm around the world.

I mean, you come on this forum and you actually see people PRAISING their state govt for building a road with ''drainages'', ie open gutters.

They don't know any better. They think that's the way to build.

They don't even know they are entitled to pedestrian sidewalks on EVERY road including inner city roads.

A responsible Government does what is right & what is in the interest of the citizens, even if the citizens don't know any better.

Well, the FEDERAL GOVT built its roads the right way when it built Abuja, the federal capital.

So this is on the state governments, not the FG.

Folks should harass their state governors over this issue.

We should also consider federal legislation for a common standard for road construction nationwide whereby it will required by LAW that any road built in a residential or business area must be built with covered drainage and sidewalks, and also mandating all states to dedicate a set minimum percentage of their annual infrastructure budget to fixing those roads currently with open drains and no sidewalks.

If they do that, within 10 years they'll get to the level of Brazil or Mexico in terms of physical infrastructure.

some Nigerians like it like that. They love the smell of fresh poo in the morning while having their breakfast.

You will complain about open gutter, someone will ask you if gutter is your problem, chai

So you want tourist to come to Nigeria, walk to KFC and be eating Burger with strong poo smell as he/she waka back home ba?

Giant of Africa, no light, no water, gutter full of poo and OPEN FOR EVERYONE TO SEE HOW ROTTEN IT IS
