you, my friend would have a problem if you "believe" everything folks say. . . and that includes "this very post of mine" lol

There are stereotypes and myths attached to every city. You'll be a foool to take a 'part' for a 'whole' and vice versa.

Mbaise people are very tricky. There are exceptions anyway but when you are dealing with an Mbaise person you gotta be careful.

I have Mbaise friends in the states and they are very good people but before i met them i have heard some very degradeful stories about these well educated people. We were adviced not to marry from there nor Owerri and even the Orlu folks share the same sentiments. For me,i like to give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong. I dont kniw any bad person from there but i know they are probably the most educated town in Nigeria!

And when you're dealing with other NIgerians, you should not be very careful?

@OP
There are stereotypes attached to every town and region in Nigeria. There's this thing my Enugu relations keep saying about Anambra women. They say that Anambra women control their husbands. I now asked them if Enugu women are like that considering the fact that Enugu was part of Anambra until 1991. Are Enugu women now immune to that stereotype because they now have their own state. If tomorrow Ontisha state is created, will they also be immune to the stereotype?

During the biafran war(as sombody wrote) many of the Igbo twons have been ravaged by nigerian land army and airfighters but mbaise were very lucky to have a enough food which they were very strict to give out to their brothers who have been displaced by the war. They resulted in selling those foods stuff with high prices which makes some angry envading neighbor to go steal some food at night, the villagers have to sleep at their farms at night to keep security with guns.this lead to what they called 'break & entry'.
As time goes on,with the influx of ppl, those without money start eating palm kenel,it is then that Mbaise start selling palm kenel too. That makes some ppl to start having a rethink ove mbaise ppl.

As for me I don't see any reason why anybody should tag mbaise person a crook or any form of insult.

Dr Sir Warrior outwitted Kabaka & Co in the defunt Oriental brothers on asset sharing. As a revenge, they sang a song which contains the evil phrase "If u see a snake and Mbaise man, first kill.........." I think that stereotype got rooted in the psyche of many listeners who over time became agents in spreading it.

At OP, please disregard this rumour, Mbaise people are one of the finest Igbos you can ever get. Irrespective of the fact that bride price there is one of the most expensive in the entire Igboland, see how well-to-do young men troop to marry mbaise daughters coz Mbaise women are firmed in marriage values. Again please disregard that hyped stereotype.

@bolded,there you are. cheesy Another stereotype.
I've seen 2 Okada men,an average okirika cloth retailer and a eke onuwa butcher marry Mbaise ladies and none took a loan to pay the bride price.

@ Ify, while I can't fault the instances you gave, what I said is not a stereotype. We are worried about the trend. It doesn't mean an Mbaise palm wine tapper or okada man doesnt know how to find their way around this. What I'm saying is that the relative cost of paying the full bride price and holding your head high after the exercise is far higher in Mbaise. Do your research and revert.

My father told me that when Warrior was with Kabaka in oriental brothers, kabaka seized d money they paid them sometime during one of their outings. That did not go down well with Warrior as attempts to get kabaka to share d money failed. warrior then planned his own and seized the instruments as his own share. i think that was the cause of their separation. The aggrieved party now produced that song on mbaise man being more dangerous than a snake.

I think generally that an average mbaise man does not like cheating. when u cheat an mbaise man, he will definitely get back to you and that is why people complain. They are not easily intimidated and they speak their minds.

I am from Aboh Mbaise and my husband did not break a bank to marry me.

Mba ise people are very wicked, their own wickedness has level forget it. Both male and female they are very decitful. They always want you to spend yours on them but they can't help you when you're in need. Those people are like evil's incarnate.

well all, of you have spoked well but my don't forget easily that nobody is perfect , (1) and that place you are refering is bad their astill good people there good family okay also likewise other state or towns their also good and bad family there the truth about this that most all marriege of now days they don't pray(1) they don't love naturally (2) what man is after is beauity what the woman is after is money and the kind house you stay , so kno body will have chance to check even family background to know the kind of familly that you want enter if you made a wrong choice you will start judging all whole towns

though not all mbaise are described as wicked, but the girl I date she is from mbaise ,she is greedy, tricking, lier , wicked, and dangerous. but I can't conclude that mbaise people are wicked. if I see another girl from that area I will not only friend her but also marry her. every body has one or two bad story and bad people in Nigeria. so u won't use past history to justify every one from mbaise.everybody have one bad story to the other
