In Rio de Janeiro, officers from the BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) exchanged gunfire with plainclothes officers from the 9th Battalion during an operation aimed at arresting drug traffickers in the Jorge Turco Hill, located in the North Zone of Rio.

The incident, confirmed by the police force’s command, took place in the early hours of Saturday, February 17, 2024. A security camera within the community captured the confrontation between the BOPE team and the undercover team from the 9th BPM (Rocha Miranda), known as P-2. The Rio de Janeiro Military Police acknowledged the incident as true, stating that 14 criminals were arrested during the operation. They have obtained the footage for analysis to prevent such incidents in the future. Initially, officers mistook each other for criminals until they identified themselves, ending the confrontation without injuries.

This operation was part of a joint effort between BOPE and the 9th BPM, following clashes between rival drug factions in the area, which has been experiencing a climate of insecurity due to ongoing factional gunfire and invasion attempts by criminals linked to the Red Command and the Third Pure Command.
