How Can I Report This Domestic Violence To My Landlord? by Melagros(m): 3:04pm On Feb 27
COMRADES, there was power cut in my area, so, because of the heat I couldn't sleep soundly in the night, when it was dawn, I eased myself and went back to bed. And one of my neighbours, I think he works offshore

He'd returned on Sunday, this morning, he drove out, and when he came back, then fight broke out between him and his girlfriend that have been cohabiting, when the girl tried to escape through the backyard entrance (which is near my window) unfortunately it was locked up, and the guy trapped her there and beat her up with a wooden stick like an armed robber, honestly I thought that girl would die!

Before we could come to her rescue, she was already been beaten (with a thick stick) black and blue and was just panting and weak! And the girl confided in me sometimes last year that she is an orphan

Distinguished COMRADES, this is not the first fight neither is the second, about twice last year similar incidents happened, the girl jilted the relationship and left, the guy went to her and pleaded for reconciliation and forgiveness, the girl accepted his plea and came back

COMRADES, mind you! The guy is advanced in age, he should be in his late 40s. Why I'm soliciting for your various opinions on nairaland is that; it is the sole responsibility of the caretaker to brief the landlord about this, but unfortunately, the caretaker has failed in his responsibility, (though he was absent this morning) some people have this mentality of 'mind your business' before you said I should mind my business: remember the case of Sanda Mariam and the late son of former PDP chairman. If this protracted crisis is left unreported, one day it may result in fatality

COMRADES, you can see that this is one of the reasons that always scares ME, Don Jazzy, Oprah Winfrey etc from getting married (affray)

Distinguished COMRADES, Say NO to Domestic Violence
Thank you All!

Please nairaland help, I am finding it difficult uploading the audio

you probably need to figure out why the girl keeps coming back before you intervene. ideally she is the one to make the report as she is an adult. las las dem fit go use you settle quarrel. the caretaker/landlord has no more right to report the matter than you do cos all of you are external to the matter in a way. except you want the landlord to evict the man cos of the violence. the landlord may decide not to evict as e no dey tenancy terms or he could be a wife beater himself.

Also even if the evict him are you sure the babe will not follow the guy to wherever he goes next?

You and I know how corrupt our police is, no matter how secret your report is, your identity must be exposed, I think the best thing to do is let the landlord know about it

Your major concern is your identity in this and not even the welfare of the supposed victim. Why report at all? undecided

You maybe right, for instance, if the guy is eventually evicted and the girl still follows him to his new location, this means women enjoy sex more than we men do

it does not matter. As long as the people around discharge their duty of reasonable care owed to their fellowman with time both of them will marked and that mark will follow them everywhere.

What would the landlord do? The landlord can't make her leave him. It's up to her to have the sense to do just that. If you know any of her relatives, you can tell them but they can't make her leave him either. Should anything happen to her, they will know who to look for, though.

It's only in Nigeria that a man will have the effrontery to beat a woman black and blue and nobody calls the authorities and the woman herself keeps going back to him, smh. And you say he has done it several times? Wow.

She's an adult ,she'll leave whenever she's tired of being beaten like a thief.
Unfortunately, no one can rescue her until she rescues herself.
