There's this myth that it is only those that have been recently diagnosed with high BP that should be monitoring their blood pressure regularly

This is wrong

Everyone of us has a blood pressure and we have a duty of monitoring it

Just as we monitor our appearance and external outlook, we must also look out for our internal environment

So this write-up is not only for those that have been diagnosed with High BP but for everyone

So How Can BP Be Measured Accurately,
Before that, note that;

• Having a BP monitor at home or in close proximity is adviced (especially for those diagnosed)

• Do not smoke, eat ,exercise, drink alcohol or coffee 15 minutes before measuring your blood pressure as this might alter your results

Follow the instructions that came with your monitor. Make sure you place the cuff around your arm as described in the instructions.

Step 1:
Place the arm cuff just above your elbow. The cuff should be about 2cm above your elbow to make sure it can detect the artery in your arm, just under the skin.

Step 2:
Keep still and quiet while you take your reading. Moving, crossing your legs, eating, talking etc can raise your reading

Step 3:
Take two or three readings, each about one to two minutes apart. If your first reading is much higher than the next, ignore it and take an extra reading. Once you have two to three readings, you can work out the average.

Step 4:
Keep a record of your measurements. Write them down in a book, or in your phone or even on a computer to track your progress.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You forgot to mention the qualifications you have as a facilitator. I see you have Dr. in your name. Are you a physician or PhD holder? I suggest you let people know what qualifies you to talk to them about thier health. That will give those interested the confidence to reach out to you.
