One terrible thing about APC and their supporters is that they always look for means to justify the hardship they keep dumping on Nigerians.
Their supporters are so wicked and wretched that they want all Nigerians to live their impoverished life.
They blame car dealers, market women, traders and anyone for the country Economic and hunger problem but never blame the Government.
If Egypt currency is devalued by 50% which is about 1pounds to 10 dollars it is still far valuable than Naira.

Nairaland is unofficially owned by APC
You are an idiot.

Now that's how to float a currency...

You devalue set it to a value you can defend for a while toll market forces kick in

I hope APC can see how you float

It's sure 99% of them won't even understand this
na the new capital city Egypt is building DT causing the issue .they borrow 50billion dollar to build the city and d city might end up a ghost city because is not for 99percent of Egyptians for rich ppple.u kbw the reality in rich luxury city .

@LegendHero

Oga they have made a series of bad decisions to get this point. So they have no options than to make further bad decisions.

LegendHero:
You mean Egypt made a bad decision? You think they will agree to market forces to dictate price if they have enough FOREX to defend their currency?

No sane government will lose people goodwill if they have another way. If Tinubu have $50bn FX to continually defend the naira, why will he take the unpopular route of devaluing?

their money spends like the dollar though. Like a t shirt could cost you 20 dollars in Egypt. That’s 40 thousand Naira. So it’s not as simple as you guys try to make it out
you already contradicted yourself bros and strengthened my assertion. Their money 'spends' like the dollar, meaning their earning also spends like the dollar..which means this their drop to 50:1 is still far far far far more manageable than our 1600+:1, cos it means it still has far more value, and they would still be able to manage their situation well UNLIKE us who are very close to spending as much as westerners while not earning anything close to westerners. Catch my drift bro?

how is Nigeria "cash trapped"? is it cash trapped or cash strapped?

if Nigeria is "cash trapped", where did the Kebbi state governor get money to buy 24 brand new cars for state legislators?

where is the federal government seeing the billions it is sharing for governors to loot?

if Nigeria is "cash trapped", where did the money come from to buy new cars for federal legislators and for Tinubus wife?

where is the money for foreign trips coming from?

Mr man Nigeria is not cash strapped, as a matter of fact Nigeria printed excess cash sometimes ago which is not a hidden secret.

Maybe you need to check the meaning of being cash strapped on Google.

The USA will not allow it because the dollars will be doomed. That is what the USA used to tie down the destiny of many nations.

How do you explain a situation where trade between two African countries is done in dollars?

LegendHero:
Everyone following in Tinubu footsteps.

I think the world need to find a way to move from the dependence on USD for almost everything. Black market won't let them rest too.

Lol 😂 you mean the cash strapped they are talking about is their country currency?

So if printing naira can bring dollar down to $1 to 100naira, don’t you think Nigeria would have printed like 500trillion?

So you’re saying Egypt can’t print more Egypt pounds to bring the dollar value to 1:1 according to your own definition of cash strap?

All those things we mentioned can be gotten from other countries. The reason for dollar isnt that
So tell us the reason please?

For instance....
Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Instagram, Youtube,....are all American companies, they own the tech world.
How many of you can do without those?
Any successful country go check, America na major player in their economy.

What is cash strapped in the context of FOREX? Let’s start from there.

You have to understand the argument first before jumping into it.

Ever since I know about politics, legislature always buy new cars and president go on foreign trips. Infact during OBJ era, he travelled so much during his first time that people labeled him ajala the traveler and he bought numerous cars for legislature and etc. Why are we not grounded as a nation because of that?

You have made a very good point about the dependence theory. However, you also questioned why African countries are not self sufficient and stated that European countries made it so. What do you think are the solutions
Follow Niger.... join BRICS to have the backings of two superpowers. We can then have control of our resources.... decide who to buy what from and who to sell what to. After all ... Europe is dependent on Africa for its survival.... not the other way around as most believe because they see the crumbs donated to us but never see the whole loaf they be taking
