Oborevwori meets Tinubu over attacks on military

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has met with President Bola Tinubu over killing of 17 military personnel in Okuoma community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that 17 military personnel comprising a lieutenant colonel, two majors, one captain, and 13 soldiers were killed while on a “peacekeeping mission” in Okuoma community.

While the Delta state and federal governments have condemned the incident, promising that perpetrators would be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law, the visit of the State Governor to the presidency was to brief of Mr President of the development.

Briefing State House correspondents after meeting behind closed-doors with President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori said that the situation is under control, assuring that there will be no more further attacks.

He said: "The two communities in question have been having issues for years and last month on the 7th of February they were invited by the state government, where the members representing the two local governments, the council chairmen and leaders of the communities, agreed to work together and they signed a peace accord.

"We condemned the killing of the officers and the soldiers because they were there on peace mission. What is happening now is something that we did not bargained for.

"I want to assure everybody that there will be no more attack on the villages if there is anyone that has happened in the past, there will be no more attack but we know that those who are culpable will be brought to book; the innocent citizens will not be attacked."

"Yesterday I was in Bomadi for security meeting to get full briefing. So some of those issues are security issues that you can't say publicly, so we are managing the situation.

"The issues of whether a place has been burnt down or people have been killed, it has happened and what we want is the way forward.

"The way forward is two ways. The people that has been killed, the officers and soldiers, we must see how we can find succur for their families and how they can be given a befitting burial, and then the community, anything that has happened in the community in the past will not happen again."

State govts need to start working and desist from the over independence on the central govt. That's why every blame is directed to the central leaving the state govt who are directly responsible first.

All these charade of meeting the FG doesn't fight the dilemmas! Take responsibility of your state! All governors should. And we should start holding them accountable first.

Will the meeting bring back the lives already lost, or restore properties already destroyed? What is the essence of the meeting?
Meeting upon meeting, at the end, nothing to show for it.

Nothing good will come out of it. It won't resurrect the dead. Tinubu should be meeting with top security chiefs

I just wish the military and police apprehends the criminals without resulting into wanton destruction of properties and killing of innocent people.

It baffles me what successive governors of Delta state do with the huge monthly allocation they get from the fed govt. U can hardly hear of the governor of Delta state commissioning mega project. U can only here of the govt during the occurrence or after the occurrence of bad things or better still during betrayal or sabotage. Delta is stagnant as always.
Where is okowa since after the elections? He can only eat pension from his God son. He buried his political career because of greed.

The two communities have been having issues for long and yet you could not do anything as the governor?

When.they knew they were not ready for peace, why did they call on the millitary to come.and mediate?

Why did you not remove the two traditional rulers to send a strong message?

What about the Delta community that killed six NDLEA officers the other time?

Abeg they should innocent people alone and go after their match. Nonsense!

This Governor said nothing about rehabilitation of the burnt Communities , and did not condemn the genocide going on in Okuoma community.

This is disgraceful and unexpected of a sitting Governor. I'm now having a thought that the military had involved themselves by being partisan in the crises which led to the unfortunate event.

Fetch those who did this and not the community, houses burnt should be rebuilt. The community should institute the case in court to seek for damage done by the military. Odi won 34billion judgement against the fed Government, it's doable.
