 Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the new army commander of the Uganda People's Defence Forces, #UPDF. He is now responsible for the command, control, and administration of Uganda's armed forces and reports to his father. Gen. Kainerugaba, an outspoken general, has already shown interest in standing for the presidency in 2026, ostensibly to replace his father, who has ruled the East African nation for more than 37 years, as president. Museveni has been accused by the opposition of practicing a monarchy on the state by grooming his son Kainerugaba to take over from him, but he has denied such accusations. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been his father's Senior Presidential Advisor in Charge of Special Operations. |
