The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a mobile application and web portal for correction of data on the National Identification Number (NIN).

The new service was announced via the Twitter page of the NIMC.

New users are required to first register on the mobile App/ web portal, before accessing the service.

Yes, there have really been many complaints about the length of time, difficulty and high cost of making corrections to NIN data.

This App / Portal will simplify the process and also make it faster.

I've always wondered why registration and modification were so difficult - just create an App!

Well, now we have an App for modifications.

Let's hope the one for NIN registration is also in the works.

What about the one they launched before, cos I could remember there was an apt from NIMC where one could register/link up to 4 of their numbers, I did that shii three years ago just for glo to bar my number last week, because of this same sim linkage, which I didn't even get messages that i haven't been linked

That was a different App, meant for you to have direct and secure access to your NIN data e.g. for
- Generating virtual NIN
- Downloading your premium NIN ID card
- Linking your NIN to your phone number
etc.

This new App is specifically for modification of your NIN data.

This is a welcome development.

If it allows proxy modification, what's to prevent someone with sinister motives tampering with another person's data?

What would ensure data security is that the person (or NIN Centre) give you guidance on how to effect the modification yourself.

Your point is very valid.

As part of the new training program for NIN Enrollment Centres, the NIMC has provided detailed guidance on how they can assist the elderly, handicapped, or illiterates, without compromising data security.
