The gunmen who kidnapped on the Edo state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Aziegbemi, on Sunday, March 24, contacted his family, and demanded N500 million ransom, after ten days in captivity.

A member of Aziegbemi’s family, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, was silent on what PDP leaders in Nigeria, including Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki, were doing to raise the ransom.

However, Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), stated that the command was not aware of the huge ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

Aziegbemi was kidnapped at 11 p.m., near his personal residence, off Country Home Road, Government Reservation Area (GRA) Benin, after attending a political meeting at Government House in the state capital.

Though Emefiele's cashless policy was a laudable one but it was ill-timed. We would have been used to it had it been that it continued.

How many of you noticed that during the period, there was no kidnapping whatsoever from any part of the country! This is because there was no cash to pay any miscreant.

But now that we are back to our normal way of cash dominated economy, the kidnapping resumed.

Kidnapping is now the Most Lucrative Business in Nigeria. Just One successful operation, the kidnappers make more money than what a University professor would achieve in his 40yrs of service including salaries and pensions/gratuities. It's so sad. I pray for his safe release, and also pray God to touch

Is this political kidnap?

As long as it is politicians being kidnapped. I honestly will not lose my sleeps.

This sort of thing does not happen under miltary rule.

A state of emergency needs to be declared. These demons need to be caught, tried by tribunal and publicly executed by firing squad, and their bodies cremated. The rest will be discouraged.

The government is just weak and useless, treating these demonic elements with kid gloves.
