WHAT GOV. OBASEKI SHOULD BE TELLING EDO PEOPLE BEFORE TRYING TO BE A GOD FATHER:

Eenin Port Project

- The Benin Port Project, a 300,000 TEUs per annum facility, is well on track.
- The call for expression of request was advertised in February, 2023. By July, 2023, after a thorough bidding process, Mota Engil, a renowned global infrastructure development firm, emerged as the preferred bidder for the project.
- Mota Engil is currently sourcing financing in the international market to commence construction. It had important critical heavy duty equipment mid last year to facilitate execution of high impact projects in the country. The project is expected to be delivered through a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (DBFOMT) model.
- It is being developed through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) involving the Ministry of Transport, Nigeria Port Authority, Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), among others.

Edo North Cargo Airport

- A Cargo Airport has been proposed to be built in Edo North Senatorial District, to facilitate movement of goods and passengers from the axis of the State.
- The agency regulating air transport, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has conducted a study on the proposed site in Uzairue, and certified it as appropriate.

Emotan Gardens Estate:

- A joint venture partnership between the Edo State Government through Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA) and Mixta Africa
- Stimulates local economy as building materials are sourced from within the state
- Edo State civil servants have access to affordable housing, a teacher got the first unit
- First phase of 100 units in the estate was commissoned by the Vice President and have been occupied.

Edo Innovation Hub:

Edo Innovation Hub is a cluster for innovators and inventors in Benin City, and is priming youth to evolve and strengthen the state’s technology ecosystem. Some of its features include:

- The South-South Innovation Hub with two halls, five training rooms, six fully-furnished co-working spaces, four rooms with a total of 100 computers, offices, conference rooms, outdoor workspaces, among others
- Hosts trainings by Microsoft and Tech4Dev; LinkedIn MeetUp sessions; Curators University’s Artificial Intelligence boot camp; Hotels.NG trainings on coding and app development; Makers Academy on robotics; Pan Atlantic University University’s Enterprise Development Centre; Siemens’ Impact Hub, and Microsoft’s Basic Digital Literacy for Teachers.

The Edo Innovation Hub is a cluster for technology innovators and inventors set up by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government to strengthen the state’s nascent technology innovation scene. The hub was commissioned on June 14th, 2018 by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and hosts the South-South Innovation Hub, a regional cluster for technology entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta.

Tagged Edo Innovates, it provides a range of beginner, intermediate and advanced training in business and technology innovation, providing youths the opportunity to learn a wide array of employability and entrepreneurial skills. Specifically, some of the offerings at the hub include digital skills, business support services, start-up incubation and business acceleration, mentorship, co-working spaces, and entrepreneurship training.

The Hub has proven to be a resource center for the state’s government plans to build an internationally competitive locally-trained labour force in partnership with reputable organisations working to mitigate the menace of human trafficking and illegal migration.

This has attracted investment from the World Bank-assisted State Employment and Expenditure for Results project (SEEFOR) Project, United Kingdom (UK) the Market Development in the Niger Delta (MADE), a number of Chinese companies, among others, at the hub.

Benin-Abraka Road Project

The Benin-Abraka Road is 88km road project abandoned by the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The State Government under Goveror Godwin Obaseki signed an MoU with the NDDC to complete the road project. The State government has awarded 40.5km out of the 88km and work is ongoing to deliver the project. During an inspection of the road project, the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh commended the State Government for the project.

Progress of Ekenwan-Ugbiyokho Road

The construction of the road project is ongoing and on completion the road will be very significant as it leads to Gelegele which is the closest point to the Benin Port Project.

It is constructed as part of the Benin Port Project. The State Government is deploying concrete technology in constructing for low-line areas of the road project.

EdoBEST (Basic Education Sector Transformation)

Edobest is a programme spearheaded by the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The initiative is aimed at transforming the basic education sub-sector and consequently improve learning outcomes in the schools. Some of the milestones reached include:

- Over 11,000 teachers trained and equipped with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) devices for improved learning outcomes.
- 400,000 school children are impacted
- Over 300 schools being reconstructed
• Over 11,000 computer tablets distributed to teachers and head teachers
• Over 11,600 School Based Management Committee (SBMC) members trained to helping in administring and maintaining public education facillities.

Primary Healthcare Centres

The State Government in the last seven years and a half years focused on revamping and upgrading the State’s health sector, decentralizing the system and bringing quality and effective healthcare services closer to the people.

The State Government has refurbished over 40 PHCs out of the 100 others to be reconstructed across the State as part of the Governor Obaseki-led administration’s health improvement plan.

Road Construction

The State Government has completed the construction of 565 roads, covering a total distance of 737.37 kilometers. Under the various streams of the Edo State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR), The State Government undertook the construction of 300 roads, spanning 212 kilometers across the State.

Notable projects include the construction of the PZ-Ehioghae-Okabere-Oka Market Road, which links Sapele Road and Upper Sakponba; the Irhirhi-Aruogba-Obazagbon-Ogheghe Road; Ugbor-Amagba Road; St. Saviour Road; Benin-Abraka Road with spurs; the dualization of the TV and Ehaekpen road, and rehabilitation of failed sections on various roads.

In Edo North, the State Government successfully completed the construction of the Afokpella-Ogriga-Okugbe road with Awuyemi Spur, as well as the rehabilitation of the Secretariat Road in Igarra and several internal roads. While in Edo Central, the State Government has constructed 56 roads and about nine (9) roads are still under construction, with about 17 other road projects already designed. Among the notable roads constructed in the Edo Central Senatorial zone include the Ekpoma-Iruekpen Road and the Idumebo-Ihumudumu Royal Market Road, among other impactful developments.

Infrastructure in the Education Sector

At the basic level in Edo State there are over 1300 schools. 700 out of this number has beeb given facelift tom improve the learning environment. College of Agriculture Iguoriakhi was completely demolished and built from scratch.

Also, in College of Education, Abudu the State Government carried out massive renovation and reconstruction. At the Edo State University, Uzairue, the State Government has continued to improve on the infrastructure leading to the opening of the medical school. The State Government has built facilities in Ambrose Alli University (AAU).

BENIN CITY MALL

Benin City Mall is the anchor project of the Benin Cultural District with world-class lounges, bars, children’s entertainment, wellness spas, free digital library, night club and wonderful shopping experience. The project on completion will be one of the largest entertainment destinations in the Southern part of Nigeria.

MOWAA

MOWAA is a museum that will contain the rich, regal and sacred objects of Benin’s past, in a way that allows visitors not just the possibility of looking in but looking out into visual landscape of imagining the once historic borders of a restored ancient kingdom.
