The quality and quantity of unpatriotic elements in Nigeria is just too much
The helicopters were in services
Working well
And the only ones available
No proper plan for replacing
Yet auction it away at a porridge price
Expected the federal government to address
What a country.

The acting rector of the college also confirmed to the lawmakers that at the moment, there was no single helicopter in the institution for training".......Management of the institution sold their 2 helicopters that was still in working conditions to private individuals and presently their students have no helicopter to train with! shocked shocked shocked shocked

I won't be surprised that one day we will wake up and hear that someone has sold the Abuja international airport to a certain individual. Why? Because government can not maintain it.

The only sensible and relevant post on the matter.

The college even did everything by the book. Monies were remitted directly to government, not to anyone's bank account

Not defending corruption in government, but I recall something my Intro-tech teacher back in the day said about buying a new car... that the minute you buy it, it begins to depreciate.

Same thing for the helicopters. The minute they were made self, the clock was ticking. Maintenance would only keep them from falling apart earlier than expected. It can't stop the depreciation. That's why tokumbo cars are cheaper than brand new off the factory cars.

While I find the price 'cheap'...and there may be wuru wuru, I won't be surprised if it was not that cheap really, given ten years of depreciation. I most certainly won't expect it to cost 10 billion though.

As for maintenance being expensive....well, you know why we Africans should make our own stuff now. Once you are saddled with a high end foreign thing, to even source for spare parts, you have to order for it from abroad. And you even have to pay for the mechanic that would service it from abroad. Better we start making things like helicopters here in Nigeria, so that we can save a lotta money.

Madness!!

The first question that should be asked is, who sold the copters to those individuals and what punishment have been meted to them to ensure they don't do such again?

That's one issue with the Nigerian govt. Bo punishment for wrong doing so there's nore than enough incentive to do rubbish.

Now, they want to g and bully those that bought the copters with their hard earned money. If they want the copters back, they should buy them back!

After all those individuals didn't get them for free.

You are speaking like you didn't have an idea that those who sold it might have sold it to themselves for peanuts. That's why they refused to sell it to three different security agencies that showed interest. That's also the reason why they refused to produce the documents relating to their sales grin grin grin. The sellers are the buyers, they can't be left alone.

Bold face falsehood

"According to him, the auctioneer paid $275,782,661.25 and $280,417,661.25 (totalling N1.2 billion) vide FGN Remita receipts bearing reference numbers 3008-4333-3046 and 1008-4304-1098, accordingly.".

How is it possible for $275,782,661.25 and $280,417,661.35 amounts to N1.2 Billion. What exchange rate did he used to get N1.2 Billion.

He is still economical with the truth.

It might be reporter's error. Total cost of auction sales was 1,200,000 USD.

The helicopters, a Bell 206L4 BZB and a Bell M2061-L4, were reportedly sold for $650,000 and $550,000 respectively in May 2023, with approval from the Federal Ministry of Works and Ministry of Aviation.

https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/18/reps-launches-probe-into-ncats-sale-of-2-helicopters-at-80-discount/

The Committee lamented that Bell 206L4 BZB and Bell M2061- L4 helicopters bought at about 7 million dollars will be sold at a ridiculous amount to private individuals for less than 20 percent of the cost price.

The Committee also noted that the amount NCAT claimed to have been paid to the treasury of government in June last year is far less than the $1.2 million they agreed to have been collected for the sale of the two helicopters given the exchange rate at that time.
