Good morning, @CustomsNG. In your Easter message yesterday, accompanied by a picture of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Customs, you described smuggling as “a criminal act that is detrimental to our national development”.

If smugglers are criminals, what then shall we call Customs officers who steal from smugglers? Senior criminals?

Just two weeks ago, a coterie of Customs officers led by Patrick Odion, the OC Operations for Ajegunle-Ilaro Road, Ogun State, broke into a house in Oja-Odan at 2 a.m. or thereabouts, carting away 155 bags of rice.

Unbeknownst to Odion and co, the owners of the rice bags detailed someone to track the movement of the loot. The discovery: not one of the 155 bags of rice ended up at the Customs office in Idi-Iroko or Ikeja! Instead, the Customs officers facilitated their sale at the Sango market for more than N9 million. For context, this is like a policeman breaking into a robber’s house to steal from the robber.

So Nigerians like to know: if smuggling is a “criminal act”, how would the NCS describe stealing from smugglers? If uncooperative smugglers often get shot by Customs, what fate should befall Odion and other Customs officers who loot smuggled goods?

Official crime, I just hope this Fisayo is in a place where he can't be reached by Nigerian officials. With the amount of work he is doing on the customs racketeering, some people will still tell you all is well with the country.

All dis stuff is an open secret....we all knw dat d Nigerian custom service has been corrupt right from time.... So I don't know why people are surprised by dis....

The stealing and authority pretenses of NCS is out of this world. The verifiable evidences been provided by Fisayo Soyombo its sufficient for heads to roll. Definitely, someone someday will dust their file. Emefiele can never have imagined that today will come during his reign.

In as much as criminality of any kind should not be supported but we should be careful of spreading unverified propaganda without any concrete evidence, those officers are human beings and have families, you don’t sit at the comfort of your home or even far away from the shores of the country and write anything just because you can write and ruin the reputation of others.

Custom officers are attacked and killed on regular bases by smugglers who carry sophisticated weapons and this smugglers are some times the locals from the border communities but you can’t see them report this incidents but when customs officers engage them, because of the sophisticate weapons they carry you will see those locals with encouragement from some press crying blue murder and if the officers reluctantly leave some of this smugglers because of the casualty it may result you will see the same press raising all kinds of unsubstantiated allegations, what then should these men do, there is a lot going on behind the scene, no body wants to die and leave behind helpless families and love ones, we should not allow people to manipulate us with unverified allegations just because they can put English alphabets together.

On another thought is it compulsory that customs officers/government workers must live in penury, let’s not forget that some people already are from very wealthy homes that have access to other funds other than their salaries and some have had opportunities to invest in something that is heavily profiting them.

Let us not be unfair to our security agents that are paying the supreme price in other to secure us.

This same individual alleging all these things have been invited by the police multiple times to come with proves he has been on the run hence him been declared wanted by the police.

Yes the are senior Crims. Because most smuglers are not criminals. But this guy's are living large with expensive cars properties everywhere. Comparing what they earn to their life styles there is no doubt that they are senior criminals.
In short, they should all declare their assets ASAP.
