The Greatly Improved Nigerian Premier League - A Silent Success by Tellmeastory(op): 12:17am On Apr 09, 2024
I have been watching NPFL matches of late.

I see smooth, green pitches, clean stadiums, sizeable crowds, exciting games of surprisingly high standard of play, good camera quality, and excellent officiating.

I remember how this league was 10 to 15 years ago.

It was pathetic. An embarrassment.

And I'm asking myself, ''Is this Nigerian league?''

I looked again at the screen to make sure.

It said Sporting Lagos versus some other club.

Everything looking so sharp.

THIS LEAGUE IS NOW READY FOR MAJOR INVESTORS TO COME IN.

I can categorically state that the league has cleaned up its act and is now a respectable league that deserves much more attention and major investment.

Kudos to all involved in this remarkable development, and positive trajectory. wink

It is now left for Dangote and other billionaires to start buying these clubs and turning them to highly branded outfits, to draw in more fans, and take the Nigerian league to highest level.

Fantastic.

Use your head.

Which money should they use to ''bring the league to be at par with South Africa''?

Budgeted money meant for schools, roads, salaries, hospitals, and recurrent expenditure?

WHICH MONEY?

You don't know it is private money that funds league development, including stadiums and club football infrastructure around the world?

You think it is their GOVERNMENTS?

You think it is the English FA that builds the stadiums and training facilities that clubs use in England?

It is ALL private-sector investment.

Loud critic, yet you don't know anything.

Cool, but the goalkeeping is poor. We need to develop quality goalkeepers too, not just strikers.

Truthfully, Nigerian league has greatly improved in the last 3years with quite a good number of followership. I dey even follow my local team calabar rovers for nnl bumper to bumper these days. And I still codedly love enugu rangers too.
If we keep supporting our own league it would only get better.

Your foolishness de stink.
Arm chair critic for a league that was created years ago being outshined by one created after apartheid.

The effrontery you have to even open mouth shows what is wrong with Nigeria.

Arm chair critic my foot, the foolish NFA think we have forgotten when Glo sponsor the league with a billionaire years back when they wanted to kill themselves out of corruption n fraud over the money.

The fools hurriedly do another pancake dressing hoping for the next fool to throw money at them.

I wish them n such fool luck in their foolishness.

That will.never happen with the criminals running the NFA.

The talent to achieve that n more is ever present but you see those criminals at NFA will never make it happen that is the difference btw leagues in SA Morocco Egypt Tunisia

You people just de make me laugh.
You that failed to use your head is asking others to use their head.

I am alive to when Glo drop a billion to sponsor this league, do not let me talk about other sponsors.

How much as the league developed to justified that fund n should that fund be managed to an extent sponsor interest are retained to ensure steady generation of income.

How are the leagues around the world ran that ensure their own sustanance. If I mentioned UK Spain Italy Ukraine you people will complain they are white n superior oua ordinary South Africa we all can attest to how they started their league n steadily grew their revenue base, what was Nigerian nfa full of lunatics watching to an extent we can have a 10 billionaire sponsor for our local league while same SA have sponsor dropping trillions in naira ?

Bunch of fools that can't run a functional system want multinational to drop billions for the to fight over n loot, ruin the imagine of such sponsor year after year n you want more fools to drop fund to such fools.

Now they do not have a sponsor n are doing beta than when they did so they should continue finding the league from the pocket for the next 10 years after which their credibility should have been reestablish then a sponsor can come in not now.

The NFA must learn the lesson about growth sustanance credibility first before anything, I do not see any of such yet n it will take 10 years of no single sponsor to learn that lesson.

Spectator - NPFL was better in the 90's.
Management - NPFL was better in 2012. We were ranked 24th best in the world.

For me, NPFL is just recovering.

Nevertheless, this season has been great. More away wins and less violence.

Sorry to bendel. One Nairalander has been crying untop their wahala.

Sorry to Rivers United. They were defeated by USM Algiers in the CAF Confederation Cup Quarter final.

Up 3SC!!!

BTW, who else noticed SE&SS teams have turned the league into something else.

2022 - Rivers United.
2023 - Enyimba.
2024 - Most likely Enugu rangers.

They are the ones dominating.

NFBI:

Away win has increased but unlike EPL and Laliga, no specific team dominates.

We know it's bad. You're right.

But....

Give your country a break.

Also, SA's league isn't that good also.

It's funny we were once 24th in the world tho.
