It is colorized to show the original colour, so that is no excuse.

If colorization artificially darkens the skin, why doesn't it darken everything else on the screen?

Yes you are right , China had a sizable population of blacks from 600 AD known as Kunluns , The first recorded presence of Black people in China dates back to the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).

They were then considered exotics mad blended well into china , most of them migrated from Africa there and thrived well in cHina ..infact one of the richest Chinese men ever recorded was from east African origin he was the merchant Zhengjiani was known to conduct trade with Chinese emperor Shenzong between 1067 and 1085. The famous emperor dubbed Zhengjiani the “Lord Guardian of Prosperity.”

So you are right there were blacks in China at some point and only disappeared after the coming of the Communist .
