Eight Nigerian men arrested for allegedly att+cking police officers in South Africa, made their second appearance in court and are set to formally apply for bail at the end of this month. The accused; Onogu Nwaemeka, Kelecho Oken, Ebot Kennedy, Chijioke Steven, Charles Aknaji, Umemba Sophuru, Amajoyi Tochukwu, and Charles Okerie Onyedikash, appeared in the Kimberley District Court on April 26, 2024 where the matter was postponed to April 30. According to South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred at night, April 18, 2024 when police officers were following up on information & whereabouts of a Nigerian national alleged to be in possession of dr¥gs. “While conducting this search, a large group of Nigerians att+cked police. Police fired rubber b¥llets to disperse the crowd,” said SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers.
