When President Shehu Shagari conceptualised the 3rd Mainland Bridge in 1976, a lot of people called it a white elephant project. They said Lagos had 2 existing bridges - Carter and Eko Bridge. Today, Lagos state can barely survive without the 3rd Mainland Bridge, and everyone is now clamouring for a 4th Mainland Bridge.

When Gen Abacha started the construction of NLNG in 1995, Nigeria could be likened to hell. Cancelled elections, interim government, truncated democracy, and foreign sanctions, Nigerians were cooking with sawdust stoves. There was no food to eat, and universities were shut down. Today, NLNG has paid over $18bn to the FG as dividends.
