Lol. Dosen koh, scores ni.

I dont know your age anyways. But, in our time, we used to write WAEC couple of times before we could make our papers completely, some people even have to combine two different exams to make up the required papers not now when one dude who can not even write a 100 words essay will clear all his papers in one sitting.

That is where we are coming from.

She needs to pursue a scholarship to study overseas—no need putting such raw brilliance through the shitty nigerian university system.

Is this a top school in Benue? It sounds like a private school. I'm curious to know what the school's previous alumni scored in JAMB.

Congratulations to the lass.
The school is a great school and has been doing well in Cowbell competition etc but I think they have not gotten commensurate publicity. It's a private Christian school, operated by Peace House, a ministry led by Bro Gbile Akanni. They have opened a second campus in Abeokuta. The main campus is in Gboko, Benue State. As far as I know, the staff are not paid salaries but live by faith! They also don't have official school fees but parents/guardians pay as able and led, which is discussed and agreed with the school. They have high moral standards, mission focused and zero tolerance for immorality, indiscipline and exam malpractice. The teachers are passionate and pour their lives into the students as they are not primarily motivated by salary. They see their jobs as divine mandate to raise the children.

Only stupid government wanted to spoil that place.
Thank God for their new governor Dr Alia.
Benue will by the grace of God be repositioned to take a rightful place

Benue has got a lot of brilliant minds, the state with the highest number of intellectuals in the middle belt region.
Infact Benue people are the most educated in Nigeria

You always think and write upside down. Your first statement should have been OK. Why are you like this?

If this girl had been from one small state across the River Niger bridge, the whole net would have been agog with " Peter Obi's legacy"! Now that she's from Benue, everywhere go quiet.

But the exam was conducted by a Nigerian exam body maybe it was too cheap to get an overseas scholarship.

Congratulations, Doo Kwase!

Benue has intelligent children.

English language almost pulled her down. Imagine scoring over 90% in each of the 3 more-technical subjects (Physics, Maths and Chemistry) and scoring around 70% in English Language.

There is a serious problem with the English language in Africa. We can't kill ourselves since English is not our mother tongue. I myself make a lot of grammatical mistakes when speaking or writing English. I just do my best and leave the rest to the masters of the language. But many of our teachers contribute to the problem.

I saw a post https://www.nairaland.com/8057154/english-gurus-pls-what-answer yesterday on the front page. The post is presented as a challenge to "English gurus". Many commenters tried to answer the question in the post. The first comment had gotten over 400 likes by the time I saw the post. Guess what? The sentence presented as the challenge is grammatically incorrect. But people, instead of pointing out the error, considered the sentence correct and have been trying to explain its meaning. That was when I realized that the English problem is bigger than I thought.

You may ask what is the error in the sentence in the attached image? Let me answer the question. When two nouns that share the same pronoun are needed in one sentence and one of them is to be repeated in the sentence, the pronoun is dropped. I mean, the pronoun is not used. But when the two nouns are to be repeated in the sentence, one must be maintained and the other is either replaced with the pronoun or maintained as well. See examples below.

When two nouns with the same pronoun appear in one sentence and only one of the nouns is repeated:
"Mary slapped Joy and Joy cried."

When the two nouns are repeatedly used in the same sentence:
"Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed Mary."
"Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed her."

In this second sentence, it is clear that "her" represents Mary since betrayal as an action is performed by Joy. If you replace "her" with "herself", herself will clearly represent Joy, meaning that Joy betrayed herself, not Mary. "Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed herself."

It is when two nouns used repeatedly in one sentence do not share the same pronoun that you should replace each noun with its pronoun during the second appearance of each noun in the sentence. Example: "Peter and Joy ended their friendship because she betrayed him."

The sentence in the image is ambiguous. "she" could be the mother or the daughter. So, saying that the mother was drunk is correct, and saying that the daughter was drunk is aslo correct. The correct forms of the sentence are:
1.
"A mother slapped her daughter because the daughter was drunk."

2.
"A mother slapped her daughter because the mother was drunk."

Thanks for this!

The question is ambiguous.

However, English Language is complex.

An English Language rule that's correct today might not be correct tomorrow..

So complex

Ogbeni, what is your source of information? Which survey supports this assertion?
Benue State University is not even the best State University in the region according to the latest Universities ranking. University of Agriculture Makurdi is also not the best Federal University in the region.
Benue State institutions are not known for any innovative research or something like that.
But according to your believe and emotions, na them go school pass.
How many doctors, professors, lawyers, engineers have they produced in it's 30+ years of existence?
Again, what is your source?

Thank you for your explanation. Unfortunately, quality education needs money, not just prayers. Loyola Jesuit and Covenant University are good examples. Either they seek funding from wealthy Christians or they institute an acceptable tuition fee, else they are at the risk of losing their talented teachers to competitors.

As expected, they aren't getting publicity because they aren't winning in any category in the Cowbell Mathematics Competition.

P.S. The winners in the Cowbell competition are disproportionately schools managed by churches. Man! Even an atheist has to accept the fact that Christianity is a force for good.

Thanks a lot and your input is valid. The only thing is that they don't lose teachers to competitors because the teachers actually volunteer and come on their own. Teachers retire or resign from jobs to join them and even at that, those who succeed in being employed there, see it as a divine call to serve. Also the school doesn't rely on prayers. They work and pray, burn the midnight oil and like I said, the teachers joyfully pour their very lives into the children.
