And aren't there supermarkets in production oriented economies like USA and China?
It's evident many Nigerians lack critical thinking.

Let me repost what you may have missed in the comment I quoted.

“All the goods that can be produced in Nigeria, Obi imports them in his supermarkets. That is consumption economics. That kind of person cannot tell you that he is moving you from consumption to production. He will then be committing self-economic suicide and Obi will not do that to himself”.

Will they still blame it on Opay, Palmpay, Moniepoint and Kuda users? Until we start producing in bulk and also insisting that foreigners trading with us use the Naira, without that, the naira will keep falling before the dollar....meanwhile, where is Odumeje?

Exactly, they have a way of affecting the system.

Very soon FG will clamp down on Nairaland. angry

After clamping down nairaland, then we clamp down google so that people won't be able to search for the rate, and then finally we shut down internet services across the country.
Then what next? Naira will start gaining, right? Mtcheeeew.

Government officials, please tackle the immediate problem FIRST

Farmers are out of their farm because of a sponsored insurgency

When farming activities fully commence in Nigeria, the dollar won't be used to import some food stuffs anymore hence making the available dollar to be channeled to the right sources

Few Nigerian farmers but plentty Nigerian mouth to feed

Insurgency drives up the price of local farm produce
While Forex issues drive up the price of imported food stuffs

But the end of insurgency can boost forex

Think about this

Some are even blaming Nairaland! You can't be sensible and support the criminals in power.

One of the dumbest reasoning I've come across today. Blaming nairaland. With these sets of adults who can't think for themselves.

I even heard they have a WhatsApp group that tells them what to say at every point in time in order to keep their brains from active reasoning.

Peter Obi is a fraudulent scammer who says what he fails to do.

Why should anyone who is not a scammer like him, take such a person seriously

I responded because I remember your moniker from almost 10 years ago as an active Jonathan supporter when he was president and that’s the reason I will respond. Those supermarkets, next and co are not even up to 1% of Peter Obi wealth. Most of Peter Obi wealth is in investment in stocks nationally and internationally long before he became a governor . He always says it most of time and even calls himself trader but it flies over people’s head because Nigerians many don’t like in-depth or complicated thoughts and so don’t understand . He is the chairman of many banks so for example if the total assets capital of a bank is £2bn and to become a chairman of the bank you must have the most/ majority shares there so how much do you think a person will have to become the chairman? …then calculate it other banks with same interests

Oga it is only foolish to keep your money in naira.

If you had your money in naira last year, by now it has depreciated by over 200%.
If you love yourselves, your family and even your nation, why will you intentionally choose to be poorer?

You still don't understand that they are now part of the problem because they're speculating against their own local currency at a large and highly widespread

As far as you know this your comment is the reason the Nigerian economy is kissing the dust? SMH. Anyway, I don't know how schooled you are. But, out of many possible critical questions, answer only this: are there no speculators in other countries where the currency is stable?

May be few but not on the scale of that of Nigerians betting against their own local currency. Half of Nigerian population want to become millionaires or double their savings simply by betting against the naira. That's madness on a whole new level my friend

Speculating is not the problem oga. The Naira is a falling currency and it is wise to save and invest in a safer currency.
Stop teaching people to make unwise financial decisions. If the naira makes a real turn around, you will not need to preach to anyone. We all will happily exchange our dollars for naira.
One small advice, for Nigerians who can't afford to save in dollars please use the CFA. It's a very stable currency.

Nigeria is 5-6 largest producer or exporter of crude oil. This is enough for a country with good leaders. It's the same crude oil that many Arab nations are living large with. Don't let anyone fool you that Nigeria is not producing anything. All the countries of the world can't be producing gadgets.

You don't know anything about economics. The value of a currency isn't determined by the amount of $$ in the country. How many Pounds and Euro do we have circulating? Is Naira not falling against them? Go to countries whose currency are doing well against the dollar and you'd be surprised you won't see dollar circulating there so hoarding has nothing to do with this.

We must start producing and exporting.

Don’t mind them.

How much dollars can one hoard?
Hoard it where sef? For what?

Where can you even get it for hoarding?

Just like you said, you must export. Not only that; you must produce refined products for the exports. That in turn earns you cheap dollars . This is no magic.

No other way out!

Don't let anyone fool you that Nigeria is not producing anything. All the countries of the world can't be producing gadgets.

1. Most of our current oil exports have been paid for during Buharis tenure. So we are earning little dollars currently from the extras.

2. Exporting unrefined crude is no issue. We are importing refined crude oil and other refined products. The later zaps all the dollars from the initial exports of crude oil.

3. The Arabs for example UAE and Qatar invested heavily and divested with the initial crude oil exports and still doing so till today. We didn’t. We can’t do magic all of a sudden.

4. All the Arabian countries that have crude oil have always had functional crude oil refineries that fully serves their countries from day one. No case of importing refined products.

Look baba, Exporting extractive materials is not same as production. It’s actually a setback or disadvantage.

Nigeria is actually producing nothing.
