Tinubu warned by northern elites to reject French & US Military Base In Nigeria….. This is another dangerous precedence to weaken Nigeria’s sovereignty…. It is time for Nigerians to rise up and take back their country before it is too late…. See details of news article below as published by Daily Trust….

Some eminent northern leaders Friday cautioned against allowing the United States and the French governments to relocate their military bases from the Sahel to Nigeria.

In an open letter to President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the National Assembly, the leaders said the federal government should not succumb to such pressure.

Those who signed the letter include Professor Abubakar Siddique Mohammed of the Centre for Democratic Development, Research and Training (CEDDERT), Zaria; Professor Kabiru Sulaiman Chafe, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, representing the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), Kaduna; Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, who is a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Professor Jibrin Ibrahim from the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Abuja; Auwal Musa (Rafsanjani) of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CCISLAC) Abuja; and Y. Z. Ya’u from the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Kano.

According to the letter, the American and French governments have allegedly been aggressively lobbying Nigeria, along with other Gulf of Guinea countries, to sign new defence pacts that would allow them to redeploy their troops, expelled from Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

The signatories expressed concern that Nigeria, being the most strategically located among the Gulf of Guinea countries, may succumb to this pressure, thereby jeopardising its defence and internal security.

“The recent expulsion of French and American troops from Niger due to their perceived ineffective presence raises questions about the efficacy of hosting foreign military bases”, the citizens said in the open letter.

They also argued that the primary goal of these bases, ostensibly to combat terrorism in the Sahel, has not been achieved, as terrorism has only escalated since those camps were established.

“It is important to clearly state that there are only dangers and no gains from such military operations.

“The American operations in Niger Republic, for example, were ostensibly to pre-empt and uproot terrorists from the Sahel region. The result has so far been quite unimpressive, if not a complete failure.

“It is apparent that the presence of American troops and other intelligence personnel in Niger Republic is not serving any useful purpose. This is for the simple reason that terrorism, far from abating, has risen dramatically since the US began its operations in the region,” they said.

They also cautioned against compromising Nigeria’s sovereignty and independence for short-term strategic alliances that may have dire long-term consequences. They added that hosting foreign troops often leads to increased prices and living costs in local areas, disproportionately affecting the lower-income population.

“Environmentally, the construction and operation of military bases can lead to significant degradation of the local environment. This includes deforestation, soil erosion, water contamination, and loss of biodiversity, which are detrimental to agricultural communities and indigenous populations. The long-term environmental damage could further hinder economic opportunities and sustainable development,” they said.

The presidency and the National Assembly have yet to make any public comments on the open letter.

Chai..

1). What has Naijay-Area become without the US/French military base?

Everyday killings, untouchable Fulani herdsmen, Gboko Haramites, disguised terror banditry, and Alumajiri and staunch illiteracy in the North??

2). Does US/French need their base in Naijay-Area to destabilize Naijay-Area?

Majority of the Naijay-Arean masses lack the natural endowment of reasoning. The same fact that kept them slave on their own soil.

We need such military intervention.
Mode/agreement of engagement are the things the government should look at.

What else can be bad than the current Naijay-Arean situaSHUNhuh

Those military bases would 100% most likely to be situated in the North. Why do you think the so-called Northern Elders are warning Tinumbu?

Tinubu warned against providing military bases in Nigeria for U.S., French troops

The PRP joins other Nigerian patriots who have alerted President Tinubu and members of the National Assembly on the dangers of the ongoing attempts by the USA and some European countries to relocate their military bases in the Sahel, where they have been kicked out by host nations, to Nigeria. As a Party resolutely committed to the sovereignty, security and well-being of our nation, we feel it is our responsibility to voice our concerns and caution the Nigerian government against entering into any pacts that may endorse such arrangements.

The relocation of these foreign military bases to our beloved nation carries with it a myriad of potential dangers that could adversely affect the security, sovereignty, and overall well-being of our dear country. We, as a party founded on the principles of “Total Liberation from Imperialism,” feel compelled to highlight these risks and strongly call on the Nigerian government to outrightly reject such proposals for our national interest and specifically for these reasons:

Threat to Sovereignty: The presence of foreign military bases on Nigerian soil may lead to a gradual erosion of our national sovereignty. This could result in our government being pressured to align with the foreign policy interests of the United States and France, potentially compromising our ability to make independent decisions that prioritize the best interests of Nigeria and her citizens.

Security Concerns: The relocation of military bases could inadvertently expose Nigeria to new security threats. These foreign troops may not fully understand the complex and dynamic nature of the security landscape in Nigeria, which could lead to unintended consequences. Moreover, their presence might provoke resentment among local communities, increasing the risk of insurgency and other forms of violence.

Economic Implications: The Nigerian government must consider the economic impact of hosting foreign military bases. The costs associated with accommodating these troops, maintaining infrastructure, and addressing potential security issues could strain our already limited resources. Furthermore, there is a risk of increased dependency on foreign aid and assistance, which may undermine our nation’s self-reliance and economic growth.

Diplomatic Tensions: The relocation of American and French military bases to Nigeria could potentially strain our relations with other African countries. Such a move might be perceived as an act of aggression or a power play, leading to diplomatic tensions and regional instability.
Shift in Focus: The presence of foreign military bases could divert Nigeria’s attention from addressing its domestic security challenges to catering to the strategic interests of the base-owner countries. This might result in neglecting Nigeria’s internal security needs and weakening its defense capabilities.

Influence on Foreign Policy: The military presence of the US and France in Nigeria may influence the country’s foreign policy decisions, potentially altering its stance on regional and international issues to align with the interests of these countries.
Environmental and Social Impacts: The presence of foreign military bases could lead to potential environmental and social impacts as these installations often require large tracts of land for infrastructure development, which could lead to the displacement of local communities and the destruction of fragile ecosystems. Additionally, the increased military activity may result in environmental degradation, pollution, and other hazards that could have long-term consequences for the health and well-being of Nigerians.

In conclusion, the PRP strongly advises the Nigerian government against entering into any agreements that would lead to the relocation of American and French military bases from the Sahel to Nigeria. We believe that such a decision would pose significant risks to our national sovereignty, security, environment, and economy. Instead, we call for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing the challenges faced in the Sahel region, one that prioritizes diplomacy, regional cooperation, and sustainable development.

Signed: Comrade Muhammed Ishaq,
Ag. National Publicity Secretary,
Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
